I would like some tips on a job I just received. Preferably I would like to video chat with someone. As it is, I am to teach a five year old hispanic deaf boy how to speak english, yet his cochlear implant hasn't taken. i would like to chat with someone about the approach i should take. again, i would rather video chat with someone about this.

Side note to this post: This is my first time on this forum and I'm not sure how it all works. Regardless, I would really appreciate some help.

What is your background? You say you are an asl student. How does that transfer to speech thearpy?

Basically my train of thought was about the same....

If the OP is "only" an ASL student....what makes him think he is capable of "teaching"....

Unless there is more that you haven't told us, the approach you should take is steer the family towards a more qualified person to employ. Tell them, "I appreciate the offer but I'm not qualified for this position."

are you hispanic?.give more infomation, i seen asian children similar situation usually someone with plenty of experience do this.... speech theapist, hispanic and adults as children have had aspects of this childs situation on this forum..read back posts as i would not like to advice i not trained...good luck with assignment

Hearing parents with deaf kids often don't think about having a deaf person teaching them ASL. They should, but they don't.
