Storage closet used for deaf child's lessons

If the paint cans have been opened, I'd be worried about VOC fumes. If they also keep mineral spirits and other cleaning products in there, and the closet is damp, that could cause some other health problems.

I think we need more information about this situation.

During the first year of ESY (summer teaching) was set up at the public schools for our deaf students, at one of the counties, they assigned a closet as a classroom for some of our students due to the school being overcrowded. My coworkers filed a complaint...byt the time all the procedures were completed, ESY was over. However, for the following summer, that county assigned a real classroom for our students during the summer.

I don't know why the director of special ed services for that county thought it was appropriate to assign a closet as a classroom. Very interesting but the staff who worked at that ESY said it was an adventure. :)

The school should provide a temporary building if no other classroom is available. I've never heard of putting kids in closets before. The parents should demand better.

I would raise a stink about it....there are so many "portable" classrooms here in Duval County....I would not let my child be taught in a "closet"....the auditorium or the gym (temporarily) would have been a better choice.

It says that he is taught his "one on one" lessons in the closet, so maybe they are just using it for pull-outs, not that that is ok, but it is better than all day class...

A School or formal Dhh program at another school could relieve the overcrowding (a bit)
Also, dhh kids don't tend to learn well in HUGE groups
