Swedish Police Say Dog Found Evidence At Crime Scene

Police in southern Sweden have a new tool in the fight against sex crimes -- a sperm-sniffing dog.

According to English-language newspaper The Local, police in the town of Karlskrona arrested a 23-year-old man on rape charges after the dog, Rapports Opus, was brought to a park in the town where a woman was sexually assaulted.

The dog found traces of semen at the scene of the crime which were found to match the man's DNA, the newspaper reported.

Rapports Opus underwent a year of training to become the region's only sperm-sniffing dog. He graduated from training in August 2010, and this will be the first time evidence from his abilities will be used in court.

If I got a dog that could do that, I would make TONS of money being a PI for married people to find out who's cheating. lol
 
The dog's nose is 100 times more powerful than the human nose so of course they can detect any scents much better than we do.
 
This is pretty cool! I work for an animal hospital and I'd love to share this with a few co-workers. Thanks for the thread I never would have known. I hope they do something like this in the U.S. We could use a good sperm sniffing dog to nab rapist.
I wonder how they trained the dog? I don't want to visualize what I am right now...
dammit should have just stopped my mind before it went there! I'm assuming it's the same method they use to teach bomb sniffing dogs and the drug dogs there just aren't any magazines around, er. :)
