Spending difference between money earned and money given

Is there a spending difference between those 2?

Here is a perspective:

Let's say that I gave you $200 to spend on a bike. You don't care too much because it's a gift. Therefore, you don't bother to do your homework. You decide to spend $100 on a $50 bike and pocket the rest.

What if you worked for every dollars you made? You want every dollar to stretch. You will be patient and do your home work. You do your research and end up getting a $100 bike for $50.

In your observation, have you personally seen many situations where people don't care about money in general?
 
I've actually seen the opposite-- I have one friend who cares about money WAY too much.
 
I'm careful about my purchases regardless of the source of the funds.
 
I'm careful about how I spend my money, period. Most of it goes to bills, anyways.
