Seen them many times. Many states now prohibits using speed bumps because they do some damages to vehicle, so instead using speed hump, meaning that the crest is bit high and longer from the front to back verses speed bump which really have very short distance and height. What I believe is that the distance from the front to back of the bump is about 10 inches with about 8 inches high at the crest, and the hump is about three or 4 feet in distance from the front to back and the crest is about 8 inches high. The hump is much softer "bump", so that they won't do damage to your vehicle. Compare to Hump and bump and you will notice the difference.

Speaking as a biker, I prefer speed hump over bump cause it will hurt my butt on Bump than hump! :giggle:

Actually, a speed hump is different than a speed bump. A speed bump is usually narrow and small. A speed hump is usually wide and high. If you look at the pictures attached, you'll see a huge difference. (Picture on left is HUMP. Picture on the right is BUMP.)

Thanks! picture is easier to explain than words. :)

My work just added speed bumps in their parking lots... urrggghhh I hate them! I wish they would install hump instead! State law don't apply on private property, only on public property.

In Utah, we have many speed humps, and they are veiled as pedestrian crossings. It dramatically slows down the traffic in the Avenues district in a good way. But we also have those stupid speed bumps in some areas in Utah, ugh. What's worse is the water indentations they have on the roads to help with the flow of water in snowstorms. It's impossible to drive into another street without stopping or going 5 mph. We don't have water drainage vents like many cities in the US do. It's hard to explain...

An example of what looks like a typical speed hump in the Avenues district of SLC

They usually use speed humps in streets and speed bumps in parking lots.

There is a way to get around a speed hump. Just drive straight towards the speed hump. At the last minute, drive towards the curb until you're a few feet away then drive through. Most of the time, the car will not bounce up too high and just glide over. ;)
