"See ya on the 'flip side' ".....after chatting on IM....got me to thinking!...I asked my teenage boys if they ever had heard of the quote, but no! Since we're down South, and my friend is in California....it's likely the figure of speech is different...

At first I thought it meant "see you in heaven/hell."....but thought again, perhaps it's just another quote as to say "see ya later"?....

I've heard this expression in Texas. Often a person will call songs "tunes."

Could be how musicians do speak....since he is in a band for many years...so I guess being a musician, he talks this way (?)....It's the first time he's said it and we've chatted for a few years....Even said "just got back from a "gig" in Wisconsin...sounds "hip" to me anyhow....And the word "tunes" seems very Southern to me.....

DJ's used to play 45 rpm records. The companies tried to have a popular song on one side only... a less popular one on the other. Sometimes they got it wrong.

Either way the "other" side was called the "flip side" because the DJ would "flip" the record over to the other "side".

In the 60's "flip side" was used for a lot of things, such as "On the flip side he let us go." or "Okay, if it doesn't work what is the flip side?" And of course, "Seeya on the flip side."

I've heard it used (for years), first as the record reference, meaning to "see ya later."

Then, also used by truckers on CB radios to mean, "see ya on the return trip."

I was told that once by my ex-fiance, with the circumstances at the time, I took it to mean "...see you, if fate ever allows that to happen". Damn right we won't! :giggle:
