And those loans need to be paid back rather than hope that the govt will somehow forgive those loans. It's a loan, not free money like most people would expect. That's the added incentive in a loan, makes you want to work harder and achieve that higher success result.

Do you have any idea how many student loans are defaulted on every year? Or how many are forgiven by the government for meeting a particular criteria?

Also I do have usher syndrome, I think some ADers already know it, it does put my life in more challenge so I need college education sooner before my vision start worsen, if without college degree so it could make me to live on SSI or SSDI if qualified for rest of my life. I do support government assistance on disabled, blind or anyone who unable to work due medical reason.

There you go. I see too many critics that are making the mistake of assuming everyone's circumstances are the same.

Bingo. The whole idea behind SSI came from the voc rehab field. It states the premise very clearly.

But is Voc rehab skills training or does it apply to a 4 year education.

Like I said. I think it's great that disabled people get assistance for college. I just believe changing a loan program is better than changing SSI...

See, now I agree graduating sooner would be more beneficial for everyone in this case. No not all cases are the same. I still don't believe SSI is the best program for handling it though.

it isn't the best program and it isn't supposed to be primarily for that anyway. it's meant to be SUPPLEMENTARY.

fundamentally - SSI remains the same.

Kind of funny how other "critics" assumed my situation in grad school was supposed to be the same as all others in the time frame to graduate and get our degrees and such and such, and how it was "impossible" to get a certain number of credits or the years it took to graduate and still be fulltime student status. My circumstance was certainly different than many/most. Best not to throw rocks while in a glass house regarding "critics." When you have a goal to go to college, you can certainly put your mind to it and achieve that goal or dream of yours, no matter what obstacles lie in the way.

It doesn't exist now. Privitization's one way, I suppose. You have any suggestions?

I'm confused. why are you asking me if I have a suggestion? I'm asking you what other program is there to address about Social Responsibility. By your and others' logic since ya'all are all about "too bad. not my problem."...... that means.... no FEMA assistance. no federal assistance.

Why should I pay for your stupidity and others for living in flood-zone or earthquake-zone? You should be having a private insurance with comprehensive coverage and saving account that would pay for everything in case of disaster, not my tax money. after all.... I'm all about privatization and I get to choose how much to donate my money to charity that would help disaster victims.

My Money. My Choice. right?

it's simple. There are handful of incompetent people like Michael Brown mismanaging our tax money. It's people like him that make you and others fight over many issues. A bigger question should be - "how is my tax money being spent?" ..... not "why am I paying for this?"

Because Obama thinks you're dumb and need to be spoon fed and led by with your hand?

Since when? I doubt since 1935.

you just showed me the "original Act" that backed my statement and it continues to be fundamentally same. If you don't believe so - point it out for me.

Because Obama thinks you're dumb and need to be spoon fed and led by with your hand?

so that means you want to abolish most of federal assistance programs like SSA and FEMA?

We are talking about SS and you asked and I said there's none and suggested privitization of SS. Talk about one thing at a time.

So you are saying the specific, SSI program, paving the way for the deaf and others came in 1935? Lol...

read the statement again. We fall under that category along with everybody else.

PART 4- VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION

SEC. 531. (a) In order to enable the United States to cooperate with the States and Hawaii in extending and strengthening their programs of vocational rehabilitation of the physically disabled, and to continue to carry out the provisions and purposes of the Act entitled An Act to provide for the promotion of vocational rehabilitation of persons disabled in industry or otherwise and their return to civil employment , approved June 2, 1920, as amended (U.S.C., title 29, ch. 4; U.S.C., Supp. VII title 29, secs. 31, 32, 34, 35, 37, 39, and 40), there is hereby authorized to be appropriated for the fiscal years ending June 30, 1936, and June 30, 1937, the sum of $841,000 for each such fiscal year in addition to the amount of the existing authorization, and for each fiscal year thereafter the sum of $1,938,000. Of the sums appropriated pursuant to such authorization for each fiscal year, $5,000 shall be apportioned to the Territory of Hawaii and the remainder shall be apportioned among the several States in the manner provided in such Act of June 2, 1920, as amended.

(b) For the administration of such Act of June 2, 1920, as amended, by the Federal agency authorized to administer it, there is hereby authorized to be appropriated for the fiscal years ending June 30, 1936, and June 30, 1937, the sum of $22,000 for each such fiscal year in addition to the amount of the existing authorization, and for each fiscal year thereafter the sum of $102,000.

but.... that's a contradiction. you're all about SS going back to its original intention. Privatization is opposite of that concept.
