U know many scientists are atheists, they work to find a better way for us to live.
U know many Christians lies, have sex with many people and steal money from people and listens goes on. what is so difference between athesits and Christians?

yeah scientists cut up animals and very cruel to animals in lab...
and they would give poison and blind animals, and put harsh chemical
on animals...

My sister wants my nephew to be scientist, no way, I don't want
him to be scientist.

And plus I think Astronauts are a dumb job, and we don't need
satellite, because there isn't anything good on tv... so satellite dish or directtv sucks..
And plus the weathermen always make mistake....
And plus we all know that hurricanes come during May to November.

And plus we don't really need cell phone, and stuff like that...
they are too expensive :D

well if we didn't have people who invented things...u wouldn't be able to sit on ur fat ass all day and piss people off right?

people who invented most things weren't scientists.

Bill Gates didn't major in Science at College.

Benjamin Franklin didn't go to college to study Science.

God invented sciencists.

Without them, we would not have telephone, blubs, cure for the dieseases alike polio and many more.

Oh yeah we are going to have bird flu coming on way to us and it is possible thousands people are going to die without a cure.
God are not going to stop bird flu, it is up to sciencists to find a way to prevent them.

It’s been my experience that religion is frequently used as a means of rationalizing socially irresponsible behavior. I see this particularly in ‘born again’ Christians. They frequently have the manners and morals of spoiled children, and are very often little more than whiney-ass little bitches. If anything, I think that atheists as a whole demonstrate far more constructive prosocial behavior than do religious types.

Oh hi Miss P, I'm an atheist. I haven't had any sex in my 21 years. I don't do wicked stuff all the time. Don't believe what people tell you about atheists if they base it only on incorrect preconceptions without having met any real ones. :nono: You should also be careful about born-again Christians who claim that they were atheists before they converted. I'd say that people are real atheists only after having thought about what it meant and actually claimed that they didn't have beliefs in gods rather than not having thought about it.
We atheists are normal people like any other and atheism is just about having no belief in gods. We just believe in one less god than Christians do. If you understand why we and you don't believe in the thousands of other gods, you'd understand why we don't believe in yours either. Theism and atheism, being about belief and nonbelief, does not imply anything about other stuff like morals. There are other words for the other stuff. There are both good and bad Christians as well as atheists. Don't spread false things about people and groups you don't know well. That way, once you've met real atheists, we can get along. :grouphug:

I have met 3 atheists in person.

I don't understand why they look angry all the time.

I’ve been an atheist all my life—I figured out that creationism was an extremely improbable explanation for our existence about the same time I realized that Santa Claus didn’t really exist. So it’s always annoyed me to no end that we as a species must always feel compelled to engage in moral behavior by the threat of punishment—in this case, eternal damnation. To me, that is the hallmark of an inferior mind, not an enlightened one. We are all born with a built-in inhibition against harming other people—this is well documented, and the portion of the brain that controls this inhibition has been clearly identified. It’s only through stressful life experiences that this mechanism becomes damaged and we start engaging in antisocial behavior. Religion to me seems to be just a cover for a partially damaged inhibition against harming others—it’s nothing more than a flimsy ego defense mechanism.

Angry like this?

:giggle:

How did you know that they were atheists? Was it because they matched any stereotypical appearences like  or :smoking:? Or did they tell you? Maybe they don't look angry when people they think are  aren't around. ;) Maybe some Christians could have preconceptions of atheists as angry people and then think that any angry people in black clothes they see must be atheists. I've seen Baptists say that all unbelievers were evil, without giving any signs if they actually have met any atheists.
I don't dress up in black clothes, look angry or smoke all the time. I have a sister who looks like that, yet she believes. If I went to the Christian gatherings at RIT, I'd look a lot like the Christians there. I also feel sorry that people have preconceptions and stereotypes that cause them to think that everybody in some groups are totally evil.

maybe because they are so damn tired of being patronized for their beliefs. and they just want to be left alone to believe what they want to believe.

Perhaps they’re angry because religious extremists are interfering with their ability to achieve productive goals. Imagine that you have a loved one who is suffering from Parkinson’s disease, and there’s a very real possibility that some relief from their suffering can be achieved through stem cell research. Aren’t you likely to be at least a little miffed that this research is being thwarted for no other reason that it runs contrary to the delusional belief system of a financially privileged minority? Especially when this belief system is nothing more than a cowardly crutch used by people who have made a life career out of taking advantage of other people, and who need to rationalize their behavior with a ridiculous fantasy that an unseen omnipotent being wants them to behave that way?

AJ, settle down. Did you really expect Miss P. to posts something that isn't ignorant?

Miss. P., morality is a religious concept, but not exclusive to religious people. I have many, many friends, some are Atheist, some are Christian. Some of my Atheist friends smoke and drink, and sleep around, some don't. Some of my Christian friends smoke, and drink, and sleep around, and some don't.

If this thread continues, it won't be a healthy discussion.

C.S. Lewis--perhaps the pre-eminent Christian writer of modern times--once said he believed that some atheists are closer to the ways of God than some who call themselves Christian.

I think he is right. Some atheists do conduct themselves by a strict honor code--others are hedonists who act with total abandon. And just the same, some Christians strive to become better--and others use the label of Christianity as an excuse to do whatever they want because they are "forgiven". And in my totally uneducated opinion, that last group is digging itself a huge hole.
