Hope I put this in the right place.

Last weekend, My fiance and I were asked to pick up a branch that fell from a tree (due to the storm). We were walking toward the branch and I started to grab a hold of the limb and found there was about 3 to 4 feet long snake lying on the limb. Ohhh, I was about to crap in my pants! I ran for my life and my fiance was standing like a few feet away from the snake wondering why I ran as fast as I could. It was like I just left him there for dead! But I was so scared and just went blank, didn't think of my fiance standing there. I stopped and turned around and told him "SNAKKKKEEEE" He said where??? I told him to look down and he kinda jumped back and scared him but he was really calm and didn't move. He went and got a rake (of course, he didn't kill it) , he shook the limb to see if it'll move away and it wouldn't. So, he had to touch the snake with the rake and finally it moved and started to slither away. I wasn't sure if it was poisonous or not.

If that was to happen to you, What would you do? Run? stay there and stay calm? I just wondered.....

Yes, I can image!

My hubby & I were in Cyprus for our 3 weeks holiday in 1987. We left bar to go back hotel with the lift from our new friends that night after midnight. We were panic when we saw that snake is middle of the road front of us so my friend had to drive to hit snake. We stopped after run snake and got out of the car and check which snake. around 1 feet long and bit fat dead snake  so we ran back to car then drive off.... scary...

We can image what if we walk on the street to meet snake there. We usually walk to hotel from bar everyday until my friends ask us for lift.........
We won't walk back to bar ever since... We stay in the hotel or walk to different way or pick us up by car...

this is happening to my dad often at his house.. we got alot of gardner snakes at my parents house.. in fact it freaks him out.. he kill them with a shovel or anything by beating them to death.

as for me.. i would grab them with my own hands.. i don't fear snakes this much. yeah they do bite but they're not poision.. i would be afraid of the snake that's poisionous.. but i know which snake is.. or not.

yeah.. i grew up like this i suppose.. went to camp where all deafies are when i was young kid. its up north minnesota.

They have thousands or i say millions of gardner snakes. me and my friends gather up and grab them.. that's how i start liking them and take them as a pet for few days till my camp coach told me to let them go or i go to punishment building. so i let them go.. ever since i keep grabing other snakes... wish i can own one as a pet someday.. but they're costly and hard to take care of.. and i believe my son will grab them and let them free around my house :eek2:

I am an uncontrollable fear of snakes, I cannot stand snakes! :Ohno: My friends told me never get too close to snakes, or try to even kill one, because more likely you can get bite from snakes. So I would back away and run the opposite direction where the snake is at.

I second that, Angel.. I would like to see the pix too!

I have been around them alot and my husband would recongize them. He taught me alot about them. One time he was attacked by green mojave rattlesnake one night on way out of building cuz he thought the sound was coming from water sprinkle but it was right there and strike him. Lucky for him, he carried some kind of stick and protected himself from it while it kept strike against him. Finally he killed it and brought it back to building and showed it to his co-worker. I was waiting for him an hour late, knew he was in somekind of trouble. Thank god he was safe and he brought dead snake home with him. It is hanging on the wall. Yuck. Anyway dont kill gardner or king snake, they are good for us. King snake kills rattlesnake around here. gardner snake eat mices to keep population under control.

Okay, we didn't kill it.. it didn't seem poisonous to me. we just let it go back into the woods. But I'm not sure what king snake looks like. I'll just have to look it up.

Same here, I was told never run either, "just stand very still" :-o Hell with that, I'm outta here, There is no way on earth I am going to stand still around the snake. Someone gotta be nuts because I refused to stand still, I'll shake as a leaf, or worst I'll frozen up. So, hell I'm running for my life! :giggle:

I can only image how freggin out you were, Because if I was in your place, I'll have done the exactly the same thing. Believe me snakes makes me have goosebumps.

saw a 6 ft black snake last yr...my hubby says its everywhere for black snakes.. ughh! :eek2:

Okay. I'll be the weird one here. I don't mind!

I am really facinated by snakes; especially venomous snakes. This is probably because, I had a pretty big fear of dogs when I was little and in my mind a snake could not jump up on me, but a dog could.

I'm not scared of snakes, I used to catch snakes when I was young. Those were non posionous ones, I haven't done that anymore. I am a little scared if I catch a posionous one and get bitten, that's all I'm scared of. I only know a few non posionous spieces anyway, though some do bite even they aren't posionous just to protect themselves. Garter snakes don't bite and they are little snakes with white stripe and black or brown body from head to tail.

Are you serious??? I'll say you're the weird one here.. I'd rather get bitten by a dog than a snake.. But.... I don't like BIG dogs like rottweiler, pitbull, doberman, etc.
