Smoking Bans Cause Obesity

Well, my hubby quitted smoking last April 2004 but he doesn't gain his weight. I know he is not alone but others doesn't gain their weight either. All what they do is execrise to get their mind off...

You can't compare quitted smoking or smoking bans with car accidents because they both are total different. Smoking habit belongs health and hit by car, train, etc belongs accident.

Yes youre right but you have no appointment with death in spite of health or accident....you never know when you will die....

actually this have nothing to do with goverment with kids, I am speaking that it better to have the cost of cigarettes go higher so kids can't buy them. Also maybe it help people spend less money on cigarettes. But like I said before, cigarettes is an additions like a drug if you can't quit.

Oh really? How come I remember one article that a bill was failed in Portland, Oregon, the bill was for the children wanting to increase the taxes so that they can have some of $$. So YES it does have something to do with the education funds.

Plus do you have ANY idea how Nevada get the $$ for most of their needs? Gamblings.

Smokers are the highest taxed consumers in America. The government makes plenty of money off smokers. And they continue to offer subsidies to tobacco farmers.

Agree, also the governments are hurting the tobacco farmers also. I never support government involvement with the cigarettes, it was them that make cigarettes more chemcials, they are just making the cigarette more problem for people. I smoke the Native American's natural tobacco cigarettes, and are working on looking for somewhere that I can buy the cigarettes from the Native Americans.

:eek3::eek3::eek3: Smoking ban causes obesity????? I thought eating too much caused Obesity???? :giggle::giggle::giggle:

That is what cause me became the heaviest baby in whole of the city of Portland, Oregon because my mom stop smoking during I was in her stomach, and she became hungry so she eat eat eat lot cause me fat :giggle:

I have a friend that smokes those, too.

Yes, a person trying to quit smoking USUALLY does put on the weight. That is because when we try to quit smoking, we end up eating instead, to keep our hands and mouths busy. WE are so used to inhaling the smoke, that when we dont have, we substitute that with food.

Not sure where to find it as researching is not my strong point. But there has been studies done on just this discussion here.

I agree with u there, Bear. I have seen it happen to my husband, my dad, and my aunts whenever they quit smoking. They gain weight only to end up smoking again and lose it.

No need to spend time being afraid. Its gonna happen to us all whether we are scared or not. Worrying about it just wastes our time. And I'm a lot closer than you are, LOL.

Oh geez!!!

I wonder what it is like to be 80 years old...will I think of death daily? I should ask my grandmother that but it is such a morbid topic to bring up.

There is a link between quiting smoking and becoming overweight. Smoking does suppress hunger. The problem though is not the smoking its self, its that when people stop smoking they typically don't start exercising and they start replacing the cigarettes with food.

I am not from Portland, Org or Nevada. Each each states is different with their laws. :)

That's great your husband quit smoking. I am sure you are very very proud of him. Guess what? My mother finally quit smoking finally because she knows I won't bring my baby to house unless she quit smoking. She haven't smoked in 1 month. :)

Its because smoking is related to an oral fixation. Take the smoking away, and something else goes in the mouth to satisfy the fixation.

Yupp agree, alot of states have lot of different laws, and that's why we are so lucky to have that kind of system because if we don't like one state's law then we can move to different state, it's like we are moving around different countries freely. :)

I don't think moving to a different state gonna solve anything, If smoking become expensive, the just they quit or drive to another state more ciggy. I know smoking can't be easy for anyone to quit. :) It long hard road to quit.

Well actually it don't have to be about the cigarettes, I mean any laws in state that someone doesn't like, he/she can just move different state.

Yupp you are right, not easy to quit smoking at all, and that's why I find when people said that they can quit whatever they do as ridicilious...

Smoking quit cause obsesity? huh

My fiance quit smoking last year ago due to Chronic Coughing. I made him to quit it. Because I didn't want he to be same as his dad got heart attack by smoking. My dad died of Lung Cancer from smoking for 35 years. My fiance and his dad already quit smoking cigarettes. They didn't gain the weight at all. They are still same shapes.
