Anyone of you who are not wearing HA or CI for a permanent silent mode?

Never wore a HA, don't have a CI...profound deaffie...but I need noises in my life.

Can medicare cover for your HA?

Frisky....believe that KristinaB and I both have no ear drums and due to a blotched surgery, my nerves are dead....A HA would not help 1 iota...even on the bone....and the latest specialist says I'm a good candidate for the CI (left ear only, which he says is the "good ear"), and I've just went thru a 3rd surgery for chronic infections and Cholesteatoma (disease of the ear).on the left ear....and a 4th surgery to the right ear is forth-coming...so, NO, not opting for a CI either....

So, gotta be wary of specialists who want to implant a CI on someone who had had so many multiple surgeries....seems I could actually see $$$ signs in that doctor's eyes.

So far it's tied! And I voted for "noises!" My left ear gave up completely from progressing nerve damage, but I still have a hearing aid in my right ear.

ah, i see what you are saying.. hey what about the "vibrating" hearing. I dont know what is it called. I remember when i was a kid. There is a kid who have the vibrating hearing aid (no sounds but vibrating) on his head. I wonder if we still have it to the day??

btw welcome back.

You mean BAHA? They still have those.

Everybody must be deaf, it shall bring us the peace.... The End.

Hmmm, why would I wanna give up what hearing I have left? I'm not that big of a D,

Thks....dunno know about "vibrating hearing"...but I feel, smell & touch just fine....I do feel vibrations very well tho'....(music, slamming of doors, heavy walking, etc.)

voted need NOISE!!!! all my life, I wear hearing aid and Im used to noise..but everyday I take my aid off so I could have peace. :) Ya know tv gets annoyin sometimes. I know what's like to hear some and whats like to be stone cold deaf. I feel lucky not to hear shit when I go to sleep.

every now and then I'll take both HA and CI off and go deaf, but it's not often. If silent for long enough, my right ear starts ringing and driving me crazy so then I put the HA back on to shut up the tinnitus. But I wouldn't want permanent silence for life, I'd lose my mind. I need my sounds/noise.

I'm okay with the idea of living a silent life. I won't be using an HA or a CI.

Having had the noises for a good portion of my life, and now not having anything except the vibrations, I will take the complete silence that I have been granted. Yes, there are things that can be missed, but the gains far outweigh them for me.

RR was right in that I have no ear drums. I also have no cochlea and we have found that I have no bones left in the ears. Nothing, including the BAHA will work for me.

I have 2 CI's, I can live without noise for awhile. I didn't wear my CI for a week when i was at camp when i was a little girl, and on weekends i would sometimes take them off and enjoy the moment of silence. But whenever i put the CI's back on, i'm always not looking forward to getting that overwhelming noise blasted into my ear after not hearing anything for 8 hours, like after i wake up from sleeping. But my ears would calm down after 5 minutes after putting the CIs back on
