Signing With Deaf Friends Via iPhone's FaceTime Feature...

I've never used 'cloud' storage per se other than having a photobucket account which is the same basic idea as MobileMe. I think MobileMe requires an annual fee, yes?

I would prefer a full iPhone though so if Internet goes down or whatever, I still have access to some things.

Yep, MobileMe offers a 60 day free trial, it's $99 a year after that. A bit steep for me personally, but some of my friends swear by it.

I agree. $99/yr is steep for cloud storage when sites like Photobucket offer the same amount of space for photos and videos for free. Why pay $99/yr when you can just back it up physically to an external hard drive for about $50??

Well, MobileMe has more features than just photo and video backup, but as I don't really need or want any of the other features MobileMe provides, I'm more than happy with my Dropbox account (even though that's presently running out of space, need more referrals, arr harr!) :) I suppose it'd depend on what you want for your backups...

The other features of MobileMe besides cloud storage of photo/video are on this page, if you're curious: Apple - MobileMe - Your iPhone, iPad, Mac, and PC. In perfect sync.

I have an iPod Touch 4g - it's technically not an iPhone, but it still has the same feature for Facetime. I LOVE Facetime. I have used it to communicate with some other deaf friends who have either iPhones or iPod Touch 4gs, along with my family (they are hearing, but they know sign language). My opinion is that Facetime on iPhone or iPod Touch 4 is superior than a regular videophone on TV or using a webcam on Skype or another IM program, in terms of quality. I can see the other person a lot more clearly. I also can sign fast without having to slow down or worrying about these freezing lags unless the connection is weaker than normal.
