I injured tendons in my right hand many years ago causing difficulty in moving my fingers normally.

My question is: Can folks learn to sign lefthanded? Thanks

Yes and I personally know at lest 3 of them and possibly more.

Thanks. I wondered if it would be confusing to the reader having someone using signs/letters that were "reversed". I appreciate your answers.

Not really. Most people just use their dominant hand with their non-dominant hand doing the support. If your left hand is dominant, you use it. If your right hand is dominant, you use that. The signs basically read the same way.

Absolutely. Some people have limited use of one hand and they use ASL.

My 9 year old son is learning ASL, and is left handed. It has not been a problem for him, or the person he is signing with. :)

Most of the time I'm not even aware of when a leftie is signing. That's how insignificant a difference it is.

When you're learning direction of signs as a leftie, don't think in terms of signs moving left or right. Think more in terms of moving your hand inboard or outboard. That will be less confusing.

I am ambidextrous so I use either hand when signing. It doesn't ever seem to be a problem for others.
