Hi! I am doing a project on signed languages and am looking for people that know are willing to watch 3 videos (a minute or so long) and answer a few questions about what the signs are. If you are willing reply to this thread and I will send more instructions! Thank you so much and blessings=):

it's a research project i'm doing! so yeah, it's homework. unfortunately I don't know many people that know any form of sign. even more unfortunately I am not given any payment for the research so I can't pay you.

the project requires you watch three videos of sign and write out what you think they said!

Are you asking us to interpret what the videos are saying for you?

If that's your homework, you are supposed to learn it yourself, not ask us for answers to what they are saying.

the videos aren't very clear. I'm only just learning about the different types of sign language and i know the most asl but i'm no where near fluent. if you want to do it...it is as follows. no pressure but if you do just send your answers in another reply.

How confident do you feel that you could understand a concept that was signed to you?
1. Very confident

2. Somewhat confident

3. Not at all confident

How much sign language do you know? Choose One:

1. None (May know a few fingerspelled letters: for example, your name in sign)

2. A little (Know a few words and phrases, but unable to communicate fully in sign) *Note-knowing how to fingerspell the entire alphabet and not knowing a large number of signs would be considered this category, not conversational

3. A lot (Conversational in sign)

If you answered 2 or 3, what form of sign do you know? (Possible answers include but are not limited to American Sign Language, British Sign Langauge, Pidgin Signed English, Signing Exact English)

You will be shown three videos, each of which will sign a phrase three times. One of these may be in American Sign Language. Write what concept you think was being displayed below. (translate the signed idea into English).

Phrase #1: Watch Video A1 at this link (https://vimeo.com/user22885306/videos/page:1/sort:alphabetical/format:thumbnail) and record answer here:

Phrase #2: Watch Video B1 at this link (https://vimeo.com/user22885306/videos/page:1/sort:alphabetical/format:thumbnail) and record answer here:

Phrase #3: Watch Video C4 at this link (https://vimeo.com/user23148768/videos/sort:alphabetical/format:thumbnail) and record answer here:

Now please re-evaluate your confidence level of your ability to understand a signed concept. How do you feel about your comprehension of the signing in the videos?

This is confusing.

If you're not a fluent signer, why are you questioning other people about their receptive skills? If you truly want to analyze other people's receptive skills, you should be presenting them with video clips done by fluent native signers.

What is your thesis behind this "research?"

Also, if you wanted this to be an accurate assessment of sign language comprehension - why wouldn't you use a native signer to sign the videos?

Clearly the signer in these videos is a beginner - which sort of makes the entire exercise pointless unless what you really are looking for is an assessment of how much skilled/fluent signers understand of beginning signers (which we kinda deal with daily, so it's not as if that's something that needs to be "researched")

So, you say you are a little hungry, and we should take a little plane trip to get a snack, although you do have a problem with Jews, both male and female, and it's possible you need a medical checkup?? :D

If you are in the ASL class which you might have done the three videos of your signing. Then you should show them to your ASL teacher so that he or she can watch your three videos and probably grade you if you are doing good with them. But thing is why would you want to show us the videos as part of your homework which does not make sense? That is not the way to go like that. Show them to your teacher.

the research I'm doing is regarding how difficult it is to communicate in signed languages when no mutual language is shared. i am aware the videos aren't perfect...but i didn't really have anyone to make them for me and i don't have funding to pay people for their time. only one of the videos was in asl. i did have my teacher change the english into asl so the grammar for that video was correct. i intentionally signed slow because i also was showing the videos to people who have no knowledge of any sign language, and i thought it would make it more possible for them to catch something if they saw it at a slower pace (which did end up being true)
