This will be my first time bringing
my sidekick II to the Amtrak/Auto Train
but I cannot remember if I can
re-charge the SKII battery inside
the train somewhere
just in case if there is a LOW battery ?

I surfed up on amtrak website;

Bring Your Entertainment Onboard

You may bring and use onboard personal electronic devices such as PCs, DVD players, and CD players.

In most Amtrak trains, First Class and Business Class seats and sleepers have standard 110-volt electrical power outlets available to supply power for electronic devices. Very few outlets are available, however, at Coach Class seats.

Be Considerate of Others, Please

To maintain a pleasant environment for all passengers, we require that when using radios, CD players, DVD players, TVs, and all other audio/visual devices, passengers use earphones or headphones, and that the volume be kept low.

Also, in consideration of others, please switch cell phones, electronic watches, pagers, and PCs to silent mode.

If your car going into auto-train, you can plug in the cigarette lighter adapter to charging your SK2.

Try going first class & reserve a ticket way ahead of time as much as you can. Check the prices for first class first. Sometimes they may be reasonable.

Have fun riding Amtrak !!!!

Hope this helps. :) :thumb:

Each seat with an outlet ?!?! That's Great & Cool Thanks!

Nope, Amtrak don't flunction rates on 1st class, and they rarely fluctions fare on coach fares. Remember, Amtrak's policy is that you have to pay Coach fare first, before you can buy 1st class ticket! Yeah, have to pay both... I have been there and to be frankly I love Amtrak!!!
My favorite route on Amtrak is called "The Empire builder" runs from Chicago to Washington State/Oregon.

Yeah I took train a few times Love it BUT I never
travel on a train with SK II so it's gonna be
more fun ! :) I try to bring my car on "Auto Train"
instead of Amtrak all the way down to Florida so that
way I can drive around using my own car instead
of renting a car. Gotta check prices on Auto Train, etc.
Which day tend to be cheaper maybe on Tues or Wed ?

Cool..

But, I am trying to look at the "Auto Train" instead of Amtrak
because I want to bring my car with me on a train
all the way down to Florida so that way i can drive my car
around there instead of renting a car. I try to learn more
about "Auto Train" anyway. Thanks ! :)

I never had to pay for both coach and first class. I find that strange !!!! I order online. People would have a sh*t fit if that was the policy and Amtrak would lose business real fast.

1st class ticket includes coach fare. They just cover up so you don't notice. But it is there. I know it, cause I had to deal with Amtrak over this. Their policy.

If you order way ahead of time then it will not be a problem. Amtrak advises people to order way ahead of time. I have saved money doing this and it is on their website.

Well , order 3 months ahead of time but you can order up to about a year. I would say 8 months would be better but there are some good first class fares for a reasonable price closer to the time you buy your ticket. Try playing with the Amtrak fare and schedule system ....don't buy anything but it will give you a better idea of how to buy a 1st class ticket on Amtrak.

Hope that helps. :) :thumb:

Check it again! I knew it and I just verified on the website. It clearly said ADD this amount to the coach fare! Its right there for you!

For example, you see the coach fare of 350 dollars

then you see the 1st class fare says "add 250 dollars to coach fare" it really means you need to add 250 with 350 dollars, this gives you exact 600 dollars total fare.

Suggest you to check on www.amtrak.com again!
