Shot By Cop

Police have the same ammo as anyone else. Some ammo companies had policies about not selling some ammo to non leo but that's long over.

NYPD and NJ police use ammo exclusive for LEO. definitely man-stopper.

Like Jiro said ammo is weaker or low quality, so LEO use stronger ammo.

It doesn't change my definition - the survival rate is still lower if shot in head.

I don't disagreeing that it's more fatal, it is for sure. I'm saying that you need to shoot to end the treat and that may require 8 bullets.

Just looked it up. NYPD is issued Speer Gold Dot 124 grain +P jacketed hollow point. Exact same stuff I happen to have in one of my pistols at home right now.

which is illegal in NJ and NYC

Did you see Jiro's statement? LEO uses stronger ammo.

In two places. I'm sure I can find plenty of examples of people being shot multiple times in other places. Besides, FBI data shows that shot placement is far more critical than ammunition used.

Jiro said "Likely" which can be true. Not always the case, I did compare different ammo and yes there are differences in it.

For example, when I bought shotgun shells from wally world, they are POS! as compared to high quality sporting center offering higher quality of shotgun shell. Mind you, both are same brand, everything is same except the base, Wally world use tin for the base, while high quality sporting center shell got brass for the base. A HUGE difference in accuracy of shooting.

Also, if one doing re-loading, depending on quality of materials used.

As for police, they need higher quality ammo, for few reason, one is safety. Poor ammo can explode before it even projectile the lead, injury the shooter (Rare but happens), secondly I noticed POS don't shoot well with accuracy like high quality does. So, police need that to reduce oops with shooting like this unfortunately incident.

Nassau County Police Officers' standard issues are typically .40 S&W with +P HP. most shooters are probably using 9mm or less with ammo of cheaper quality or FMJ. not very deadly.

You just showed articles are not from LEO.

Speer doesn't load bullets special for cop. They get the same stuff I get. I hand load a lot of ammo and have a chronograph. Speer's ballistic data is actually pretty good compared to others that exaggerate. Wally world does sell a lot of cheapened ammo so you get what you pay for.

Hand gun were never intended for long range shooting. They were designed limit range, that is where police usually needs them. Rifle on other hand which is more lethal, because it increases the shooting range, can as far as 2 miles but the killing range is around 1.5 miles. If one shoots powerful rifle aimless in place like NYC or LI, the chance if it hitting somebody is high. If somebody comes in my house, I rather use either Handgun or shotgun. Don't want use rifle because I know it will hit my neighbor and I don't want that to happen.

When you have gun, you have to think of its limitation and knowing how to handle it properly. Only idiots will shoot in the air in city or where there is too many people around. That idiot will be 100% responsible for death if the stray bullet hits somebody.

Hand guns are notoriously inadequate.

Not very deadly? While I would agree that HP are more lethal I wouldn't say that FMJ are "not very deadly" I don't think HP are some specialty round anymore. Pretty common and popular. As is the 357 magnum that blows the 40 and 9 out of the water.

there you go - "you get what you pay for". your police department most likely have a limited budget for ammo so they're buying same stuff that anybody can get.

NYPD and NJ have false illusion of security and unfortunately - they shit money. they're using ammo exclusively for LEO - Law Enforcement - Federal Premium LE, Speer LE, BLACKHAWK!, Eagle - Ammunition

IMO - it's a waste of money and it doesn't make much difference. oh well.
