It is considered one of the rudest and insulting of gestures.

I doubt if he thinks it funny like he did when President Bush was the recipient of the insult.
 
That's funny, Ahmadinejad's dream is want set the diplomatic relation with US.

Not sure getting a shoe thrown at you is a compliment anywhere.

Who remembers that movie "Leprechaun"? They threw shoes at him to distract him because (for some reason) the leprechaun was compelled to shine each and every one of them.
