Apology in advance about another religious topic in this forum. I have been planning to create two topics to seek out the answer from AD'ers for a while, this topic is one of them. After these two topics, I will be no longer create any religious topics beside 'special' topic.

Allow me to start with this topic, in case, some of you may not know what Seven Sins are... here it is:

Pride
Envy
Anger
Sloth
Greed
Gluttony
Lust

Origins

The Seven Deadly Sins never occur as a formal list in the Bible. Some people say they can all be found in Matthew's Gospel (chapters 5 through 7), but they are not in a simple list there.

These sins were identified as a group around the same time as the Bible was being translated into a single language. Rather than these sins being identified in a single place in the Bible, they are found all through it, from Genesis to Revelation. The letters of the New Testament mention all of these, and many others as well. The Catechism has many Scriptural references in the section that lists the "Seven Deadly Sins." It is well to remember that the Scriptures come from the Jewish and Christian Churches, not the other way around. In both cases, faith preceded the writing.
I found it very interesting... however, I would like to ask any Believers/Intellectuals a question about Seven Sins. Do you feel that Seven Sins are part of your beliefs?

If yes, you don't have to comment on anything but you are welcome to do so.
If no, ....why?

Addition: No matter which yes or no, do you think that commiting any of these '7 actions' is sin?

Proverbs 6:17-19
These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

What do you mean "Believers/Intellectuals"? Does that mean other people cannot give their opinions on this thread? Please clarify.

? no, I didn't say that. I usually refer 'Intellectuals' as non-believers and 'Believers' who believe in any form of religion. In other words, all people are welcome to input their opinions in this topic...

What about Believers who are also Intellectuals, and Intellectuals who are also Believers? I don't think the terms are mutually exclusive. :)

That's what I am planning to say in my previous post but I am not sure if I will make sense or not in my post. But yes, I agree with you about these terms. My apologizes.

No problemo. Maybe you can just say believers and non-believers. Or just say, "all opinions welcome." :)

Okay, since we are on 'believers' subject... What's your exact definition of 'believers'? To not name a member but I can notice that s/he usually use this 'non-believer' term for anyone who have the doubts about Bible.

That kinda got me curious what does it really mean? I do believe in Bible but I have the doubts and questions about it. I do believe in God & Jesus but I have some doubts about certain things. And I am not a member of any religious groups... so does it mean that I am a non-believer? That's what I would like to know what does 'non-believer' and 'believer' terms really mean?

For me, "believer" means a sinner who has accepted Jesus Christ as his or her personal Savior. That person believes what the Bible says about Jesus, about our sinful condition, and about the promises of God. It is not just a belief of the mind, but a belief that puts the spirit's eternal destination into the hands of Jesus.

As a believer, I believe:

* I am a sinner, and I deserve to go to hell. The wages of my sins is death.

* Jesus, thru His blood shed on the cross in His death, fully paid my debt of sin.

* Jesus, thru His resurrection, offers to me eternal life with Him in Heaven.

* I repent of my sins. That is, I am very sorry for my sins, and decide to turn away from my sin life direction, and follow Jesus.

* Thru the grace of Jesus, I trust Him to become my Savior. It is thru His grace only. I can do no works to save myself. Nothing I do is worthy enough.

* All this that I believe is written down in God's Holy Bible.

That is what means to me "believer". Beliefs are not just thoughts, but are actions taken based on those thoughts.

If a person stands in front of a bridge and says, "I believe that bridge is safe to cross," that is just a thought and words. But if that person actually crosses the bridge, that shows real trust and faith in the bridge. If that person refuses to cross the bridge, then that is not real belief.

Belief in Jesus means, I believe He has saved me from hell, and will welcome me into Heaven. I also believe that Jesus guides my life every day, and that I can depend on Him to take care of me.

An "unbeliever" or "non-believer" means a person who has not trusted Jesus to save him or her. It means that person does not believe what God wrote in His Bible about Jesus, sin, Heaven, and hell.

A believer doesn't mean a person must be a member of a group.

Also, just because a person is a member of a group (church, religion), it doesn't mean that person is a believer. There are many non-believers (unbelievers) who join churches and religions, but don't trust Jesus.

I have discussed Seven Sins with my good friend often. We both believe that each human being struggles with at least one of these Seven Sins. I dont consider it " Sin " but our weakness. It seems like one or more of Seven Sins plague throughout a lifetime, whether it is greed, lust, anger, sloth, pride, gluttony or envy.

I am most guilty of the Pride one...it has created many downfalls for me. I have to check myself on that everyday.

I do believe that these can lead to sins. For example, Lust..that may lead someone to lust someone so badly that he embarks on an affair even though both are married. So we all have to hold ourselves accountable for our weaknesses. Hope this makes sense!

I have heard of this before and there was a movie about it several years ago. Seven deadly sins exist among us even we do not accept it. They mean for us to pay attention to self and avoid them to make life a better place to live for ourselves. If not then we destroy ourself by follow one or more deadly sin. Everyone has it one or more. I don't know anybody who does not have it at all except for Jesus Christ.
