Amazing how looney right wing activists have gotten.... those old people are probably on medicare and they're screaming at the government, "Get your hands off my Medicare!" Thanks to lies spread by Rush and Hannity.

"Yes, they've been tricked by Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh into believing that health care reform will somehow involve golden-grilled ACORN thugs showing up at bingo with a tray of syringes filled with black liberal death juice. Yes, they've been tricked by Sean Hannity and Lou Dobbs into thinking that this "halfrican American" president with his terrorist pals and Kenyan birth certificate is trying to supplant God's U.S. government with a liberal fascist homocracy.

But failing to grasp the extraordinary contradiction evident in receiving Medicare benefits while simultaneously shouting nonsense about "government-run health care" is quite simply inexcusable.
....
I don't claim to know the full stories behind the variety of senior citizens who have been recruited to disrupt these town halls, but one thing is clear. They're participating in a corporate lobbyist-driven campaign to prevent the rest of us from acquiring the same affordable, reliable public health care they enjoy. In other words, their government-run health care is excellent. So excellent that it can't be shared. And they're so intensely motivated in this selfishness that they're volunteering their time to infiltrate town hall meetings and loudly ambush public officials at the request of lobbyists who are very simply lying to and exploiting them.

With all due respect to their chronological age, shame on them."

Let's see...
Seniors are senile for opposing the health care plan.
Critics of Obama are racist.
Seniors opposing the plan are selfish.
Old Marines opposing the plan are hypocrites.
They're all shills for corporate lobbyists (no evidence required).

Gosh, so much bigotry in one post and one article... I really don't know where to start.

That's because it's friggen true and YOU refuse to see it.

Birthers? Wow, they think because Obama's black, he must be born SOMEWHERE else!

Get real. Those wrinkled farts know nothing and Medicare should be withdrawn for showing disrespect for the government.

What is there to see? I clearly see your bald assertions but I see no evidence because you have provided none. How do you know if these guys are birthers? They're protesting government policy they believe is bad.

So you're endorsing the idea that government should dole out benefits to citizens who revere the party currently in power and reject benefits to those who dissent? You do realize that's tyranny, right?

So you don't want our fellow Americans to be insured and be protected from bankruptcy and other financial difficulties with the help of our government? Go join with those angry white men.

...Those wrinkled farts know nothing and Medicare should be withdrawn for showing disrespect for the government.
Like government benefits were withdrawn from antiwar or antiBush protestors?

Oh, that's right, it didn't happen. Why? Because in both cases it's called freedom of speech.

Where did I say I don't want fellow Americans to be insured? I'm starting to think this debate is more about liberals pronouncing themselves morally superior rather than a serious discussion about the ramifications of policies. But too much is at stake for this to become a mere exercise in ego-stroking.

You need to recognize there are other ideas out there. You can't call yourself enlightened on a subject if you fail to comprehend the reasoning of the other side. You especially can't call yourself enlightened if you deny there is any other side, and that's what the Democrat Party has been doing with these false "Party of No" accusations.

I've written a lot about other ideas that would lower the costs of health care, making it more affordable for everyone, while maintaining what's good about our current system, like the innovations and the short wait times that other countries don't enjoy. Before accusing me of being indifferent to the problems in health care, please actually read what I've written about it:

To be frank, I already am a bit angry about all this. I don't appreciate that the President is trying to sell this as the only way to control the deficits even though the exact opposite is true- it'll exacerbate the problem. I don't appreciate that he's trying to hide the ulterior motive of a single payer system even though he's on the record saying he wants that and the designer of the public option boasts that it's a way to get to single-payer gradually so people don't freak out. I don't appreciate that they're trying to shove through this bill that will rework a sixth of the economy without even reading the bill or understanding what's in it. I don't appreciate that the Democrats and "progressives" are using demagoguery to malign the righteous, genuine anger of millions of Americans such as myself and smearing them as astroturfers.

Oh yeah, don't forget to report me to the White House: flag@whitehouse.gov

I'm concerned how negative ads will affect seniors in nursing homes. The ads are inflammatory. They aren't in touch with the world outside their facility and they are easily frightened. If you've never cared for a person in this situation, you may not be familiar with how vulnerable they become. Suggesting that the government will let them die is cruel. All of them are going to die in the near future and they don't need this kind of stress. Basic human decency.
