Scored a 360 in GED Reading Exam

390, 320, 400, and I'm down to 360. I took the GED (General Education Development) Reading Exam at the Daytona Beach Community College.

Man I'm so great at math and writing, including science and I passed Social Studies (I passed all 4 sections before I get a 400). This is my fourth time failing the GED Reading Test! :ugh3: :mad: :pissed:

I graduated from Florida School from the Deaf and Blind with a Special Diploma back on 2002.
 
That is so cruel and unfair.
U should have got high school diploma when u graduated from high school. I am sorry. I probably will fail reading and writing test too.
 
I know. My mom and I got a feeling that Florida School for the Deaf and Blind are pushing out Special Diplomas and giving it to blind/visual impaired students...

Me? I'm pretty much very good on math but FSDB didn't want to give me a standard diploma... :(

Not right. They had no right to u when u completed all courses u took in high school. We have problems here in Ca kids are taking exit exam now and they have to pass all those test before they can graduate but it is not fair to other kids who did not pass exit exam, they worked so hard in school and finished all courses they should get high school diploma no matter what.

Do u go to adult school to get diploma? We have programs here for those people who does not have high school diploma to attend and does not have to take GED test.
Hope next exam u will pass it.
 
Well, FSDB is a K-12 school. I'm going to a GED program in Tallahassee (which I live in).
 
Keep it up! possible you should buy GED book that will help you to pass. You know I passed GED in 1993. I never return to Senior year in High school. College evicited me to require GED first before I could register. I remember GED school did not help that I was unable to get higher score to pass all. Books have alot of sources to learn what I success GED. My lowest score is literature. I guess I am now better at reading level and contiune my reading every day :)

I notice your reading is better than I was in 1993 :)
 
Did you know that any community college does not need high school diplomas? I have noticed that most of home school people have gone to the community college to obtain AA/AS degrees then entroll at any 4-year university...
 
I passed my GED with no problem, yes it's hard but you got to study a lot and the more you will learn. No one isn't going to help you get a GED and I know that for a fact because it's what you need to know and its basically everything you have learned throughout the HS years..... You will eventaully get your GED one way another..... Don't give up!! Think postive!!!!!!! By the way I went to GED classes and once I completed the class, they gave me ged online test which is accreidable (sp) meaning that colleges will accpet it and jobs... Etc...... Maybe you can check it out online or something? But make sure it's not a scam before you take the ged online, If you found GED Online but FIRST call the colleges and ask them if they will accpet GED if your planning on going to college. (I would still do it anyways I did)..... Mine is real.....I didn't have to do the reading part or the writting part! I hope you can get your GED and you will so KEEP IT UP!!! :)

Honestly my reading sucks but I never give up... I learn more each day and try to do better.... But no one isnt perfect.... I anit good in writting!(phfft!) But Like I told him check online to see if there is any online courses (ged) where he lives and maybe he can take it from there.....

Have you took FCAT at FSDB? It's state exam but only english and math then you can pass to get regular diploma.
 
Hey Greysonpeddie,

Can you contact the community college in your local area? Just find out if you can enroll there for the associate of science/art? You do not have to worry about GED... Why? any college degree is better than GED...
 
My goal is computer programmer/game development. Lots of math. Linear Algebra, Calculus, etc. I also like physics, like force, inertia, gravity, torque (for race cars), etc. in games.

You just remind me of someone I know. He is a very bright, sharp deaf guy, quite a lot like you. He aimlessly floated around college for seven years, dropped out, got an interview with a Fortune 500 company and now makes over a hundred thousand dollars a year doing computer programming. His job is one that usually requires a four-year college degree and sometimes even a graduate degree.

Your writing ability seems quite developed. I'm willing to bet it's not your reading ability, maybe it's something else? I've heard of eye tracking issues when reading that affect comprehension in some deaf people. Maybe it's not what's in your head, it's some external factor? That might also help account for the variability in your scores.

By the way, you like math? Rock on. Fourier transformations are suhweeet, fo shizza!

I thought division by zero is mathematically meaningless or undefined… :confused:

That's why I scored a 490 in GED Writing. I also scored a 500 in math. About reading, the last time I took GED Reading two weeks ago before I got a 360, even if it's 1 or multiple students in class and even in the quietest room in Daytona Beach Community College, GED Reading made me feel tired quickly even if I went to bed like around 10:00 PM, wake up at 5:30, eat a great breakfast, and take a really deep breath before the test. While mom and I travel back to Tallahassee back home, I got kinda freaked out...trying to relax, and after a day of GED Test, I feel a lot better now...well--almost, but it's alright... It happened since I almost lost my ability to comprehend. I took it slow, but it's all I can do as far as thinking logically.

The most that gave me the most trouble in GED Reading are inference, poetry, implied main idea, comming to conclusion, and that's all about it...

By the way, you like math? Rock on. Fourier transformations are suhweeet, fo shizza!

I love math. I'm very good at algebra, although I remember most of it and will probably have to do a refresh after four long years of not continuing to learn math.

I have about 3/4 of the year before GED ends so if I keep failing, I will have to take all 5 sections of GED again and that is NOT going to happen!! All I can say is "get out of my way 'GED Reading...'" and get to college starting Janurary...

That's the point. Division by zero can have some huge implications. Not too long ago the USS Yorktown shut down dead in the water because of a division by zero.

Dividing by zero, you can prove that 1 = 2 = 92421.2 = the wavelength in nanometers of the light reflecting from your palm. That should happen at the local bank more. $1 = $9 trillion. ;)

Hey man, good luck! We at AD are rooting for you. If you wanna talk math sometime, PM me. We can crack math jokes like "Don't drink and derive" and everyone can think we're weird psychos.

I don't undy math. In that I am NOT a geek...lol....Grayson.....have you taken the GED with appropreate accomondations? Are you Braille literate? Maybe taking it with Braille could improve your scores.....your reading level seems 1/2 way decent....even better then my friend who's oral deaf......
 
For Braille, it will take some time to decipher the characters in Braille, something between 62.5 to 166 milliseconds, depending on the complexity of the Braille symbol(s).

Even with Braille, it may help a little, but I read at normal speed, but it would take a lot of time to think about what the question are asking and whatever if it's inference, implied main idea, identifying a conclusion, etc.

However, the GED program I'm in wouldn't provide Braille, since my assumption for that is there are no blind students in my program. I think they do at Daytona Beach Community College but I'm not going back there anymore because my mom called DBCC to inquire about my GED test but my mom never received response from DBCC. So, I'm taking a GED Test by September 7 in Tallahassee, hoping to reach up to or exceed the score of 410.
