Hello AD.com members..

I have been a long time lurker, but finally decided to get a user account. Anyways I will tell you a bit about myself.

I'm 27 and as of the first part of this year moved to Tennessee from my home state of Florida to attend college at Maryville College. As you can probably see from my sig below I love to ride motorcycles and that is the reason I chose to move close to the mountains (twisty roads).

Welcome to AllDeaf, Jasper.

I used to live in Loudon County, not far from Maryville/Blount County.

Cool! I used to live in Knoxville, TN from 93 til 98 and then moved to Tucson, Az. My old neighborhood used to be Concord Hill in Farragut. I am wondering if they still have West Town mall. I have forgotten all main street names except for Cedar Bluff and few others. :)

I am wondering if you have met any deaf people there? I'm wondering if you know who is the Blaylock family or the Stinnett family?

Hi Cane,

Yes west town mall is still around.. its on Kingston Pike.. the main road around Knoxville.

As for meeting any deaf families.. I have met a few people at the KCD, as well as the local deaf school on the other side of the river.. I did have an interesting run in with an older deaf couple a few months back..

I was riding my bike down one of the roads towards sevierville, and noticed a set of keys hanging from the passenger side door of a honda CRV.. So I got next to them on my bike and tapped on their side window. The look of shock on their face was great!.. Pointed down and at the door to try to get their attention to the keys hanging down.. but at the time I did not know they were deaf.. so a few moments later as we slowed down to a stoplight, i signed "key" out of annoyance..

The older gents eyes lit up and he quickly rolled down the window and pulled the keys out of the lock.. I did not see what the driver said to him (I think it was his wife) but she then mockingly hit him and they both said thanks.. I did not get a chance to chat with them though, as I had to pull up to the intersection further.. But, it was an interesting moment...

I wish I would have at least got their names.. Ohh Well!

Oh yeah, I do remember the street, Kingston Pike. If my memory serves me right, I know there are old mansion houses on Kingston Pike. I love this old house that has three or four stories and it has gorgerous vines on the porch. I always drool at it everytimes I drove by or ride with someone, I'm sure you drove by it many times. The house is on Kingston Pike. It is on the opposite side from Seymour neighborhood.( Something like that, I can't really remember sorry). :(

Cane Corso, do you realise if West Town mall was shut down, the folks in Knox County and surrounding areas would go nut? I would imagine they wouldn't mind if East Town Mall in east Knoxville (now known as Knoxville Center) was shut down.

Now Farragut/Concord (I still call it Concord) is home to the biggest shopping development ( Turkey Creek ) in eastern Tennessee, most of times people don't really have to drive all the way past Cedar Bluff/North Peters roads.

Speaking of the Blaylock and Stinnett families. I knew them though I have not seen them for years after I left Tennessee for Atlanta.

Jasper, if you are looking to attend events for the deaf, you could try Knoxville Deaf Nework org website. The website was recently launched months ago.
