San Francisco May Ban Declawing Cats

When I lived in CA. my boyfriend and I wanted a cat so we went to an animals shelter to check the cats out. There was one cat and it had a sign in his cage that said " cat has been declawed and neuter , be careful he bite"! No wonder the cat bite , his claws and balls were removed then it was given to a shelter! The poor cat looked really sad! We were not able to take it as we wanted a cat that could fight back if got outside !

My declawed cats were very intelligent, playful, and lovable. Any time someone sat down they would jump into the lap and snuggle.

If you think claws do not play a role cat behavoir why did tell us your cats has no claws and are nice and your daughter cats has claws have no personality!


None of my cats were declawed and they all were playful and one told me when the phone was ringing! And he loved to sleep in bed with me! He was the sweetest cat ! I rescue a homeless cat and that cat would get in my lap and rub his face against my face ! The cat was living outside for over a year, it took awhile for the cat to trust me , but once he did trust me he would wait in front of my house to feed him! He has a new home nowand madea wonderful pet! I would havetaken hinin but no pets are allowed in my condo! That really stink , but I got around it by getting a hearing dog!

Left cats with declawed in road is bad because they have no way to defend.

It's bad to leave any cats on the road. Even a cat with claws can't defend itself from a car.

We actually got most of our cats as strays or from shelters. I've never put a cat in a shelter or dumped a cat on the roadside. I kept them for life.

To prove that declawing has nothing to do with their personalities. That's just the way they are.

Yeah, berber is bad carpet if you have dogs or cats in the house. It will snag and run.

Maybe he was more upset about someone removing his balls?

Did he bite prior to being declawed? :dunno:

Was there proof of cause and effect?

Well, I believe it's only humans who get upset at the thought of "ball removal." Cats and dogs couldn't care less, they don't even notice when their testosterone level goes down. Their balls don't run their lives; they may feel a STRONG need to get out and mate when they smell girls in heat, but that's the testosterone, not the saggy little gross things swinging between their legs. When the balls are gone, so's the testosterone, so the cat doesn't even notice anything changed. Except that he spent a day at the vet and may be a little sore. In the end, cats and dogs may be HAPPIER being neutered/spayed because the stress of procreating is, well, stressful.


None of my cats, in the present or the past, have been declawed. They've all been spayed/neutered, and they all have their personalities. Some are laidback, some are feisty, some hold a helluva grudge, some forgive in 10 minutes, some swat with extended claws and some swat with sheathed claws and some ignore the paws and gnaw on a finger knuckle instead. Though the ones who prefer to "gnaw" have sensitive toesies and they probably don't like hitting people with their feet any more than they like us touching them. One cat we have is probably the first one we've had that actually lets us play with her feet, and she's the one who'll smack us long before biting (and lemme tell you, she's got a heck of a lot of force in that paw. Yeesh! You can actually hear a slap). But I do believe it's a well-known trend that declawed cats are more prone to biting. They have to be since it's the only defense left to them.

I saw the cat in a shelter and I did not ask any questions about it . I only know it had no balls and no claws and that it bite! My boyfriend and I thought maybe the cat took to biting to defend himself! We like the cat but
did not want to bring a declawed cat home knowing a lot of dogs were around!
I would never declaw a cat , if it got outside by mistake it will need it claws to defend itself! I do not know what made the cat bite .
