Samson, why is he so important in the story???

Why an angel told Samson's mom to not drink any wine or beer, don't eat non kosher food, don't cut your son's hair, don't eat grapes or raisins???? In Judges 13.

Then Samson wanted to marry a girl from Phillipines. Phillipines were wicked people.

Is that girl a filipino?

Oh wrong spell Philistines.

Samson was a Nazarite, so he was told not to have his hair cut off, and other issues in obedience and honor to God. Samson's mother abstained from wine while pregnant with him.

You can read more here: http://www.learnthebible.org/L-088_samson_birth.htm

The girl from Philistines was named Delilah, she was the one who betrayed him - cut off his hair while he slept. Samson got weak and people (the Philistines) laughed and made fun of him -- he ended up praying to God to let him die with the Philistines....he got strong again and then died with the enemy by pulling down the two pillars in the building.

I read this in the Bible too....and there was a movie about Samson and Delilah in the 1940s or 1950s that starred Victor Mature. :)

And no, Delilah wasn't a filipino. *rolls up eyes*

Then Samson killed a young lion. And then married the girl. Then he told the men to solve his riddle. Then the men threatened the wife to get the answer.
Then the wife got the answer from Samson and told the men. And then Samson asked the men what the answer of the riddle.
And they answered, and Samson went to Ashkelon and killed 30 men and robbed them. And gave the stuff he stole to the men who answer was correct.

Then Samson abandoned his wife, wife married Samson's best man, and Samson came back and wife's father told him what happen.
Samson got mad and torched field. And Philistines killed the wife and her father, they were burned alive.
And Samson killed some Philistines and became fugitive.
Then they captured him and tied his hands.
He broke loose and threw a donkey's jawbone and killed a thousand Philistines.

Then he spent a night with a prostitute.

Then he fell in love with Delilah.
Philistines demanded her to find out from Samson how he is so strong so that they can capture him. They will pay her a thousand dollar.

Samson lied to Delilah 3 times and finally told her his hair has never been cut.

Then Delilah told Philistines and they hired barber to cut his hair.
Philistines took him and gouged out his eyes and took him to Gaza.
Then his hair begins to grow again.

And during partying and celebration, Samson was brought from prison and made to stand at the center of the temple between the two pillars supporting the roof. Then a boy helped Samson place his hands against two pillars.

3 thousand people and 5 Philistine leaders were in the temple.

Then Samson pushed against the pillars with all his might.

The temple crashed down upon the people..

WOW!!!

Very good, Miss P. :) That's the way the story goes. ;)

Yes, with an emphasis on "story."

Let's review this:

One person killed dozens, hundreds, even a thousand men.

That one person also lied and robbed people, which was okay because hey, it's the Philistines, they get the shaft in the whole Bible.

Of course, nowhere in history is he recorded other than in the bible. Even Alexander the Great, who conquered the "known world" was never mentioned in the bible.

Selective storytelling.

God told his mother to ensure that she obey His rules so Samson would be blessed with his strength.

Why his long hair not to be cut? Because it would weaken his strength. God needed him to protect his people from the Philistines at the time.

Wrong! Check Reba's link above about Alexander the Great. The Bible in fact God foretold a prophecy of a powerful Greek empire and of his 4 generals in hundred years advance. Also with Daniel's prophecy about the 4 empires .. that the King Neb. of Babylon had these dreams that Daniel had to interpret his dreams. And they fulfilled.

Well, that's nice. There are vague references in a dream to something that could be construed as talking about Alexander the Great, but never anything specific. Sounds like someone looked at what was written then scoured history to find something, ANYTHING to fit that prophecy. Of course, with all our knowledge of history, SOMETHING would fit.

Alexander's empire was really split into FIVE kingdoms. One was conquered 20 years after being established.

Cassander ruled in Macedon
Lysimachus in Thrace
Seleucus in Mesopotamia and Iran
Ptolemy in the Levant and Egypt
Antigonus ruled for a while in Asia Minor and Syria but was eventually defeated by the other generals at Ipsus (301 BC)

Ahh I love Samson's story. That story was really good and very interestin' ! :)

Abraham and Sarah lied to Pharoah that they weren't marry and then an angel told Pharoah that they were married and Pharoah asked Sarah why she didn't tell him and gave Abraham and Sarah herds and fancy stuff.

And Peter lied and denied Jesus 3 times.

Nobody in the Bible are perfect, except Jesus in the Bible.
