If you're in Chicago or surrounding area, you would know that common area codes are 773, 708, 312, 224, 847, 219, and 630.

I remember being in 630 area code last year and saw one business with a 779 area code. I wouldn't help, but wonder. Did they recently settle here? Will they stay here for long? I'm sure that you would google and figure out were the 779 area code is located. It's pretty far from Illinois!!!

Why not change phone # if running a business or at least get a different phone # if having a business. That way, you won't have to give up the number everyone knows you by. Get a new # for business. You know one to represent locally.

It made me wonder if I wanted to give them my business. As a customer, would you be wondering the same thing?

Alot of business have different area codes, but they have google voice now to get a local number. Maybe they have had thousands of dollars in marketing materials and didn't want to throw it away. Either way research the business local number or not. There are a lot of fly by night businesses either way.

I wouldn't be worried about that. Cell phones are more common now than land lines, even for businesses. I run mine with a 520 (Tucson) text number and a 518 (Saratoga) VP/work number for a Saratoga business. So many people know the 520 number that I'd loose business if I ever changed it.

I missed 312 in old times. My parent's business's old number was 312 then changed to 773 even it's in Chicago. That's sucks for change whole on the business cards, address book, front window, etc. Ugh.

The area codes in our state keep changing because they have to create new ones to keep up with population growth. We had to change our area code for that reason. The state is planning to add more area codes again.

We had to add new area code in my state for the same reason. This was years ago too. We now have toe dial 'one' before making a local call and this was only done to made calls that had a difference area code than our. Having cell phones really mean coming up with more new area codes

Not really, I do wonder when I use IP relay if my area code confuses them, since I use a Seattle area code in Virginia..lol
