i m wonder if other than dlink router will work with vp such as linksys?

Sure, many of router would work if you know how to set up port forward. Dlink is the easiest and most realiable router for Videophone. I have tried several routers, including Linksys.

I do like Linksys more than Dlink, because of better security. BUT when it comes to VP and realiable of VP connectivity, Dlink seems to outperform Linksys.

My SUGGESTION TO ALL OF YOU who have VP and DLINK router... don't you all know your router is exposed WIDELY open to hackers? Create a password in administrator account!!!! By default the router installed with your VP don't have password, I find it VERY easy to barge in your router!!! I have done test myself, champ!!!

Since I am not authorized installer for those VRS providers. I can not say much for free. I am network expert, and know inside and out of networking. All I can say, just be careful what your doing. You need to study and learn how this shit works. One wrong setting can wreck havoc and you might not know.

ohhh i never knew that DHB -- thanks for the tidbit!

DLINK i heard has a nasty reputation -- was suggested Netgear :dunno:

Think about this, who makes videophones? Of course Dlink! That is why they know their shits better than anyone else. Linksys is great, but the company don't know what the fuck is H.232 protocol is for. That protocol is for Videophone. Yes, older linksys router have H.232 and then Cisco bought that company then decided not really need H.232 and eliminated them to enchance the security.
Oh well
other pointer I could give for free. Get an additional IP address from your ISP and hook it up straight to switch that connects to cable modem or DSL modem. Its far better than going though the router, and better security as well.

I have heard that wireless runs better than wired one. I am not ready to leap in for Wireless... Why? I don't know the indepth of wireless configuration yet. I do know wired configuration maze. Once I learn the tricks of wireless then I could go for it.

Sorenson VP100 videophone is same as DLink i2eye Videophone

You make sure to read carefully reports below before getting right brand name of router.

Belkins (all Models)

They are not 100% same thing! Yes, Dlink makes both of them. Whats difference between these two device? Well, there is two chips inside thats added to VP-100 and its patented by Sorenson. However the hardware compatiblity remains the same for both of them. (I mean compatible with routers)

Two questions: Are any of you guys familiar with ActionTec router? And will it work with Sorenson VP-100?

No guarantee. It MIGHT work or not. Whats wrong with free Dlink router? I don't see anything wrong with router provided by Sorenson. If yours happen to be fried, just contact Sorenson and ask for replacement. Cost? Zero!

How much more a month ?

The reason I asked about it is that I am waiting for Sorenson to send me VP-100, but right now I have D-Link VP and it works with wireless ActionTec router just fine. So I was just wondering if it might work with Sorenson VP, too.

around 5 bux a month
Don't expect it to work with two VP going on same time. I tried and wow! It did clogged the traffic. LOL

I know a solution having two or more VP running at same time. upgrade to premuium service where they have higher uploading speed. VP needs at least 220k upstream speed. Most residential broadband upload speed is around 380k So speaking need about 450k for two VP to run at same time. Roadrunner have upload speed up to 2mbps... at $premium$ rate gee!

If it DID work for Dlink DVC-1000, then its LIKELY that it (Sorenson VP-100) will work with that router. BUT, you will need to obtain second IP address from your broadband provider, and a switch. Oh since your using wireless, it may be different. I am not yet expert with wireless... I know hardwired very well. :)

If you're having problems configuring whichever router you have for videophone access, you can contact the VRS helpdesk of your company of choice for their live help.

D-Link routers tend to be the easiest to configure, in my experience. However, I prefer the Netgear brand as they usually have the most features and options to select from.

As long as one VP works on your network configuration, the other should work as well, though you'll have to figure out how to configure the firewall so that the proper pass-throughs are enabled. Trust me, unless you know how to work your network, you'll probably want to have a professional do it.

Right on! Really the purpose of configuration on router for VP is to reduce the number of hops. The more hops, the more bumps for the upstream and downstream speed and cause degrading quality of VP. Give you good example.

Its like having pipe and if you have too many valves open and close, will water go though at maximum speed? No, right? So, having a pipe without valves gets maximum stream of water. Same principle in networking. The firewall was intended to make sure that there is no hacker trying to break in your computer, this stalls the videostream. If you had configure the router to leave that port alone and let whatever go though to specific IP address you want undistrubed. Its just exact same as having valve full open all the time.

switch.. you mean a switch box instead router?

RIght, you need to add switch, but Im not going to give you detail because I don't get paid. This is real trick way to set it up.

It's easy as the VPSwitcher.

I think you don't know what the F is switch! I think you should take Networking course and find out what switch is for.
Switch for Networking cost around 30 dollars, while your junk cost 140 dollars. Wake up!

P.S. You could request free switch though Sorenson! Its STILL better that this pricey VPswitch anyway.
