Bully's judgement day coming tomorrow
Anti-game activist Jack Thompson claims court victory to get judge to obtain copy of Rockstar's forthcoming game tomorrow afternoon.

In September, Take-Two Interactive surprised many when it revealed that its forthcoming high-school-based game Bully would be rated T for Teen. After all, the game had been dubbed a "Columbine simulator" by anti-game activist Jack Thompson, in reference to the 1999 school massacre, and was being published by Take-Two subbrand Rockstar Games, which had historically specialized in M-for-Mature-rated games.

However, just because Bully is getting a T rating by the Entertainment Software Ratings Software Board (ESRB) doesn't mean it's out of the woods yet. Today, Thompson announced that he had won a "historic" victory in a Miami-Dade Circuit Court. According to the attorney, who has a history of aggressive self-promotion, "Judge Ronald Friedman entered an historic order directing Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc., to provide the Court with a copy of the violent video game Bully 'before close of business tomorrow,' Thursday, October 12."

Thompson, referring to himself in the third person, went on to describe what Judge Friedman's order entailed. "The Judge further ordered that the game will be played in his presence, in chambers, with Miami attorney Jack Thompson present, if he wants to be there (he will be there) so der (sic) that Judge Friedman can ascertain whether the game should be sold to minors," said Thompson. "The Judge indicated that he will take however long it takes to see the game played in its entirety."

Due to the hour, attempts to confirm the judge's order directly with the Miami-Dade County Court were unsuccessful as of press time. However, several other news outlets, including Gamepolitics.com and the fan site Destructoid, which blogged the hearing, confirmed Thompson's report of Judge Friedman's ruling. (NOTE: Destructoid's site was intermittently down as of press time.)

Bully is set to hit PlayStation 2s next Tuesday, October 17. An Xbox version of the game was canceled earlier this year.

Jack Thompson is just stupid and Bully isn't bad game but just enjoying to play around high school without gun related then ESRB is doing well with job and approve that Bully isn't more violence as GTA does. I'm happy that he's unsuccessful in courthouse and let him to complain about it but no would change or cancel.

I wish that Bully need release on Xbox but cancelled for some reason.

Some people are just love to sue on Rockstars.

Bully to Be Judged
A court in Florida will decide whether or not the game is a public nuisance.
by Daemon Hatfield

October 11, 2006 - Today, in a courtroom in Florida, attorneys for Take-Two, Wal-Mart, and GameStop appeared to defend next week's release of Bully. Anti-videogame crusader Jack Thompson had previously made a bid to keep the game from being sold in the state on grounds that it is a "public nuisance." The hearing ended with an unprecedented order from Judge Ronald Friedman.

Take-Two has 24 hours to produce Friedman with a copy of Bully. The judge will review the game as it is being played, for 100 hours or more, and then decide whether or not Thompson's claims are valid. If the two agree, retailers will be prohibited from selling the Teen-rated game to minors. For their part, Wal-Mart and GameStop are worried about losing sales should the legislation pass.

Bully has been receiving lots of press in the ramp up to next week's release, and it's looking like the game isn't quite what its detractors have made it out to be. Previews reveal that the title is low on the violence developer Rockstar has become known for, and high on social commentary about how rough school can be for kids.

Please say hi to hottest screwball of year!

good one, deathpit!

Otherwise Jack Thompson is just basically a big whining courtroom bully. He should just plain go fuck himself after all the "Bully" game aint got chockful o' guns! I think its cuz poor Jack must have been a bully during his childhood that he didnt want to relive it all over again

But im so disappointed at rockstar for not releasing the xbox version of the game.......

I havent hear any updates about the court's decision on the game...anyone?

It's not easier to children to order this game without ID but ID isn't issue until around late teens, such as driver license but how about 13 years old guy want this game since he don't have ID then that's not easier to find out.

Wal-Mart has stopped to pre-order via online.

he really need to find another hobby

if he's targeting violent games, particularly violent shooting games, why isn't he targeting FPS is ridiculous, FPS teaches you to shoot more realistically then GTA... since when we can auto target?

as for bully, I doublt he know anything about it before starting shit.

Thompson proably will face jail time... :P

Report: Jack Thompson To Face Contempt Charge

Report: Jack Thompson To Face Contempt Charge According to a report from gaming legislation news site GamePolitics, anti-game lawyer Jack Thompson has himself come under fire from lawyers representing publisher Take-Two Interactive, who have called for Thompson to be held in contempt of court. While it remains unclear as to the exact nature of this request, it most likely stems from comments following Thompson's most recent failed attempt to prevent the recently released controversial title Bully from being sold in Florida.

Thompson had originally requested that he be provided with an advance copy of Bully in order to help determine if the game should be considered “a public nuisance” within the state of Florida, a request which he was awarded. However, a later hearing on the possible banning of the game resulted in Miami-Dade County judge Ronald Friedman handing down a decision that Bully would be allowed to be sold, explaining that the controversial title did not feature gameplay or content that warranted it from being banned from sale.

According to the report, the contempt of court request could find Thompson facing jail time, though it is more likely that “fines, judicial admonishment or censure” would result from this most recent turn of events. The report also notes that attorneys representing the Philadelphia law firm Blank-Rome have filed a “Petition for Order to Show Cause,” which requires Thompson to illustrate to a judge why he should not be held in contempt.

In an email to GamePolitics, Thompson has responded to this request, writing, “You want to play hardball…? You want to try to throw me in jail? You have no idea what you are unleashing in doing this. You’re at the brink…”
