Remembering Things Before Age 4?

I remember before 4, my uncle's pet, a St. Bernard, was walking toward
me, yeah it was bigger than me....
So my Uncle picked me up and put me on top of the picnic table.

I wasn't scare, it was friendly, just curious about who I am.

I remember playing with a wooden truck on the floor in the living room at home and dad telling me that I'd soon turn 4. I also remember him and me outside in front of the house and him saying that I had grown and wasn't a baby anymore. I also remember my brother who died when I was 3. I remember him push me onto a couch in the big library room at home to wrestle with me. I also remember another time when I made him fall down in the living room and cry. I also remember playing with plastic bowling balls and pins in preschool and seeing him roll a ball and then go over to the pins to knock them down. In the preschool, the class also used various kinds of bikes in the classroom sometimes. They ranged from a flat bike thing a few inches high to a big bike as tall as a little kid.

I do remember a few things from my childhood.

I remember going over to my grandparents' house, the old one, at nighttime. I would sit on my grandfather's lap and he would try and communicate with me, using silly gestures and such. Then I joined my dad to go to a liquor store nearby, came back.

(My grandfather died in an automobile accident in 1978, when I was only 3.)

I remember when my grandmother moved to the smaller house they owned, after the accident. I remember it very well, a very sunny morning, playing on the stairway in the front porch.

I also remember one winter night were my father shot movie at my sister and me. The light from the camera was so bright, and my eyes would be blinded by the light. But, we were showing off the books we had, reading from the books in sign language. Unfortunately, I do not think my dad ever developped it. I think next time I visit my parents, I will definitely ask dad about it, and get the movie developped.

 I remember my younger sister always trying to get out of the crib, and one day, while she was napping, my mother was ironing, and I heard a big thump, I ran to my mother and told her I heard a bang, she ran into her bedroom where my sister was sleeping in her crib, and instead of sleeping, she found a way of getting out, and fell onto the floor.

I also remember watching The Mouseketeers, and I remember watching American Bandstand.

My major concern with memories is that some of my memories could be false... then half of my childhood (especially before age four) could be fake! How could I create false memories-- out of security, out of need to have some sentimental positive memories of a childhood that I never have? Read more about FalseMemoriesSyndrome... The problem about confirming my memories is that NOBODY got good memory like me... not even my own mother can confirm if things had happened whilst I was young...

I do believe I do have a fantasy-prone personality where the boundary between my memories of realities and fantasies blur and I couldn't tell whether it ACTUALLY happened or I dreamed it up. SO embarassed if I started to recite my (fantasy, but I thought it was real) memory to a friend and they would say: "I was never there..."

Back to the point: I am not sure if this happened but I recollected that I was lying in my crib, on my brand new blanket (which I still have in my possession) and it was nighttime. I was restless but I wasn't able to move around much. I was laid down, passively, and looked at one of ... decorations/embrodiery on the blanket which started to move.... it danced and swirled around. This panicked me and I started to shake and release a loud cry and looked around my bedroom through the white bars of my crib to see if my mother was up. I am not sure if this is one of my nightmares, false childhood memory, or actually a real incident.

I remembered bicycling around on a purple bike with training wheels around age 3 or 4 at an apartment complex (I lived at an apartment complex for two months in-between the period of moving-out from my first home to my current home).
I remembered seeing twenty cats/kittens sitting in circle, eating from a big pan that was filled with cat kibbles at my old home's backyard (definitely before age 3)...
I remembered having two hens and a rooster as well (my husband found out about this two days ago and was VERY shocked at this fact because I was living near the Downtown San Diego yet I did have farm animals as pets! Actually they were for our little farm in our little backyard. We did grow our own corns and carrots :giggle: me, a CITY GIRL!?! WOW. )

:) If they turn out to be false memories, then they are very sentimental dreams.

I think you're fine. Some parents wouldn't admit. They knew or they have forgotten about the past. Take that for instance, my kids' dad remembered the past when he was a young infant. He remembered he was stabbed by the safety pin on his diaper into his belly button by his child cousin. :( He grew and remembered that. When he told his mother about it, she didn't wanted to admit about this. His father remembered and told the mother, "Be honest" in Spanish. She was stunned that their son never forget the terrible experience. His cousin admitted that she was just a little girl at 8.  So much for lettin' someone too young to try diapering the infant with safety pins back in 1960's. Jeez.

Some parents didn't want to admit, some parents may forgot those memories. Strange worlds we live in. Some parents even try to run over their children with silly words, "Child, no, you don't remember that. Every kids like you do not remember anything." What??? Excuse me parents, don't push your children off the memory lanes. Jeez. So we should encourage our children to remember everything. ;)

I barely remember anything from my kidnapping on my 5th birthday.
