Hi, I dunno if this is a stupid question but I need to ask in order to learn and find out what's the deal with the deaf community regarding alot of "drama", gossip and backstabbing within the deaf community. My friend who is deaf told me that you find alot of those qualities within that community since the deaf community is small and everyone seems to know each other. I wanted to know if its true and why? why would he say that? And do you guys agree or disagree?

Thanks,
Chris

I agree with your friend. Yes, it true. In Ireland, we are like that. We all know each other very well and it a small community. That's the way we are!! It's been going on for years, and to this day is still going on. I tried not to get involved too much with my Deaf community as i hate trouble, gossip, backstabbing etc, you name it. I am sure you will get more information from alldeaf that can answer your question. Hope this info is useful to you.

thanks for the reply. But what I don't understand is- don't you find those negative qualities in all types of communities such as in the "hearing world", not just the deaf community. It seems that within the deaf community one tends to find those qualities "MORE", maybe because its a smaller community? This all come about when I had ask my deaf friend why wouldn’t he want to work within the deaf community and he told me- “NO WAY” and I started laughing and was puzzled. So I had asked him why and then told me why. He told me he was raised in the hearing world and felt more comfortable as well. I was shocked and surprised actually but I told him that he would find those types of negative influences in the hearing world as well. I guess I don’t understand since I was never brought up within the deaf community.

Well I think maybe it's because we are MORE Of a GIANT FAMILY.
I mean when you have brothers and sisters...you are gonna fight.
Our bonds are so tight, and we are so close that yea sometimes we
do clash. But that is all part of learning to deal and grow with each other.
If we never did anything wrong, we would never grow.

All part of life. :gossip:

i understand where you're coming from but how close is that "bond" to where my deaf friend doesn't really wanna get involved within the deaf community?

Yep, It is true that deaf community is very small, Even if we went to the same school with them, then years later we found each others again. But, to be quite honestly, Both hearing and deaf share the same amount of gossiping, drama and etc. It's part of human nature.

Means r u hanging around Deaf Community too much?
Caused more gossip and backstabbing.. sumth'n like that..

I do social w/Deaf Community but not too often.. likely once in 2 wks and to see whass'up w/my buddies.. as for my prior children come first as my family always...

I'd rather come by their place for playing Texas hold'em poker once in a month hang around my close friends only..

No difference, Hearing people might have gossip or backstabbing or grapevine... still out there... I've seen there at my work.. Pretty interesting their information coming from... Mostly Grapevine...

As same my in laws are heavy grapevine and easily get heard!
By the way, I doesn't even bother at all just all say Really? *nodding* yea.. wha..ever... Depends the news of grapevine!
