question about nightmare..

sorry, but i disagree with this as well. nothing about emotional, sexual and/or physical abuse is funny.

i may learn how to cope with my traumas in therapy, but i will never look at them in a humorous light. never.

I agree 100% with this post.

hence the reason why there is such a thing as ptsd.

Exactly. That's what PTSD is. Misfortunes in life are wrinkles in the carpet. Trauma is having the carpet swept from under your feet. That is the case of PTSD. Objectivity is lost.

Exactly, I dont understand why people cant be sensitive enough to understand others feelings, and that some things cant just be "laughed off"

i don't either. it's no wonder why people with ptsd and other types of mental illness don't want to admit the fact that they have a certain diagnosis.

i used to feel the same way when i was diagnosed with bipolar in 2006. eventually though, i learned how to reach out to others to help educate them about the disorder.

mental illness is something one should never be ashamed of.

Exactly, and its people that either think you can laugh it off, or its no big deal that make things worse.

precisely. ptsd isn't something a person should be blamed for or something they caused. i'm not saying anyone here on ad does this, but i get so tired of people who think someone is responsible for causing their own mental illness. nothing could be further from the truth.

PTSD is also not a "weakness." It happens to anyone who's been exposed to a certain level of trauma.

fair enough. i'm also a person who always looks at the humorous side of life (when i'm feeling level enough to do so), but when it comes to my traumas, i can't.

Time and distance.

I am not yet ready to see humor in any aspect of my late wife's passing -- Yet I wrote a $5,000 check I didn't have a dime to cover and in order to pay it back to the funeral home I had to scrounge aluminum cans.

The way I found out the government records got mixed up was when one financial institution would not do business with me because I was a deceased person. They insisted on speaking to my wife. Officially for a year and a half she was alive and I was dead.

I cowered in abject fear in a corner and the only scary thing I could find in the room was my 5 year old grand daughter's drawing -- of ME.

There will come a day when I will have people falling out of their chairs laughing at this stuff.

But today is not the day.

That's great Berry.

When will genocide be funny? When will murder and rape and abuse be funny? War? When do those things become funny?

so do i. people think disability is hard to understand? try having a mental illness.

Tell me about it. My PTSD keeps me in bed all day sometimes. And people think being blind is hard. <laugh> Newflash, folks. Blindness is a walk in the park next to PTSD.

time and distance won't work for me. the things i went through ended 19 years ago and lasted a total of 18 years. i will *always* feel anger and resentment about the traumas i experienced.

i hope you do find humor in your wife's passing one day (and i mean that sincerely).

unfortunately, that will never happen to me.

It must be from that popular rhetorical quote on words:
You can't spell manslaughter without laughter!

Hell, just even did a google search on it. It seems they've made a tshirt with that, the bust of a 50's type comic guy with a butcher's cleaver laughing.

Barry's just gotta find a different way to deal with his issues.
