Purple Continues to Lead the Way in Mobile Communications for Deaf and... -- ROCKLIN, Calif., March 15, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --
Purple Communications™, Inc. (OTC: PRPL) ("Purple"), a leading provider of communication services for people who are deaf or hard of hearing, today announced its IP-Relay application ("app") for Android, its latest addition to the Company's mobile communications lineup. Purple's IP-Relay app is the first dedicated application in the telecommunications relay industry focused exclusively on enabling communication for deaf and hard of hearing Android users through text relay.
Purple's IP-Relay application for Android joins the company's recent introduction of its Purple Video Relay Service ("VRS") application for Android, making Purple the relay industry's first provider with both text and video relay applications on both the Android and iOS platforms, which together represent the majority of the world's smartphones.
"Mobile communication has become an indispensible part of deaf life, and this importance will only grow as networks and devices get more and more powerful," said Mark Stern, Vice President of Technical Program Management for Purple. "Accordingly, we've set out to lead the industry in delivering dedicated text and video applications tailored specifically to the needs of the deaf community."
"We're committed to creating innovative solutions that work with devices customers already have, leading the way on PC, netbook, and Mac-based solutions," said Stern. "We're pleased to be at the forefront on Android and iOS platforms as well."
Purple's newest Android additions include the following important benefits to consumers:
Inbound and Outbound Relay Calls. Purple VRS for Android and IP-Relay for Android add the convenience of inbound calling, enabling users to receive calls placed to their Purple text or video numbers directly on their Android devices. Likewise, users can easily place outbound relay calls.
Integrated Video Mail – Purple VRS for Android integrates PurpleMail™; a video mail feature for deaf callers to receive video messages in American Sign Language.
Point-to-Point and More. In addition to access to Purple's high-quality interpreters, the Purple VRS app for Android offers instant access to point-to-point calling making it easy for Purple's customers to stay in touch with each other.
Convenience Calling Features. Both IP-Relay for Android and Purple VRS for Android include simple to use calling features such as integrated address book functionality with the Android OS and tap-to-call functions when telephone numbers are identified in other apps such as Google Chrome and Google Maps.
