WOODBRIDGE, Va. (WUSA) -- A Prince William County Principal is under arrest and possibly out of a job after school officials discovered irregularities with a school funded credit card.

According to a release from the Prince William County Police Department, Kilby Elementary School principal Jenny Georgina Enriquez-De Bermant was arrested Thursday on one count of embezzlement. Police say the investigation began May 1st after they were alerted to the issue by Prince William County School System investigators.

The release states the joint investigation between school officials and the police department proved that between June 5th 2011 and March 4th 2012 Bermant used the school-issued credit card for personal purchases totaling over $8,000.

The Prince William County School District placed Bermant on administrative leave on April 30th. A statement released by the school district calls the allegations "distressing", but also reassures the public that "Kilby Elementary has been thriving under the leadership of acting Principal Amy Jordan."
