That is why I got myself SSI, I knew that the people out there
won't let me do what I need to do. I had tough time, especially
at California... tough experience... and other places and even
my home town... Some people are cruel. So anyway...
I knew that I won't ever work... so I got myself SSI, will get foodstamp.

Planning to not have kids, stay away from men, not get marry,
live with my mom, after she dies, she said I can have this house,
and I got transportation... and that is all I need. I'll make friends
and be closer to family members.... and I'll be careful with my health,
so I won't have to live in nursing home when I get old or anything...

I believe into work. Majority of deaf people are at home smoking pots and taking care of their children in poor care. That is wrong and we should cut SSI, SDI, and other that welfare programs.

I understand some people really can't work but they can work at home anyway. I just want the welfare to push more strict with choosing the clinet to provide SSI, SDI, or etc.

For example I am at Gallaudet University and I get $943 (Califonria's SSI). I believe it is joke but thank god for that I have those money to pay off the debts from Gallaudet.

My questions, is it fair compared with hearing people that they had to pay lots more than deaf people do, for Univeristy turitions? Is it neccessary to have SSI while you can get jobs?

I don't like that idea, I am deaf and I need money. That is extremely lame compared to some people had back problems that they couldn't walk or do works at outside of their house. They deserve SSI but they still can work at their home.

Some people tend to say that I can't get job but they can work at McDonald's or Taco Bell or Small store. They need to think that they have to start from below and then they can climb to whatever they want. It is sad that people don't even try to work at McDonald's or whatever it is.

*I know some of you may hate it but you may have to start it on those thing to get whatever you want*

Conclusion: Many people abuses the SSI, SDI, and welfare system. We need to reform the system. If we change and it will save us some of taxes.

Serious? Some Californians I know, they only get $700 - $750 at best.

I wonder how did you get that much while some Californians didn't..?

I don't know. It is too odd on what I had compared with other people. I don't meant to brag but my family earns good salaries. My first father died and I already had SDI and that was no longer when I came out from High School. I don't know why I got $943 and other people got $700s. Maybe they are living with someone and they used their foods. So they lost some welfare support. California's SSI laws are little strict but I found a way to loop it and I got top SSI $ amount that they could give.

Remember SSI was a privilege for deaf people to use and I said, "why not use it because I am deaf." Still, I don't like to take use SSI just because I am deaf. I need those $ to remain at Gallaudet. At same time, it could save our family’s budget.

At first, I had $943 and then they changed it to $742 because they said that I am living in someone's place. Therefore, someone at the house feed me. I lost the food welfare. I fought with SSI that I am not living in someone's place. I am using Gallaudet's dorm for shelter. I also had to pay Gallaudet's meal plan for foods. Therefore, SSI played around with their laws with me so I straighten it up and got my $943 back.

It is sad that many people don't fight back to the SSI. I understand with deaf's problem with English. The SSI laws and SSI's letter are often too complexed for many deaf people. They usually accepted what SSI said. That how SSI played game with deaf people. It was totally evil's way from my view but again it is politic thing.

Interesting.

From what I understand is that Social Security service didn't provide the full information about SSI/SSDI/etc hence why some deafies didn't get full support like people.. maybe like you. Oh well. I honestly don't mind to have deafies to live on SS but not for several years or longer, you know what I mean? For deafies, find a job is much more difficult than hearies. So I don't blame them for living on SS for a while but they should try different job positions to apply and start to work if hired. Or health reasons, either way.

Won't work on me.

For me, I want to work, I actually WANT to work, but the problem is I do not have experience and I know most of you guys say, "Don't blame it on your deafness" but I'm afraid I have to say this, yes I do blame it on my deafness. Don't get me wrong, I'm proud to be deaf, but it's just that there are too many stupid people out there in the world, not hiring people that might have potential to move up on the corporate ladder. They are stopping the deaf people from succeeding. I've been looking for an Information Technology position for 5 years, ever since Bush entered the office and look at me, I still can't find a job. I recently had a hernia operation and the doctor told me that I can't do any hard labor just yet till I recover 100% completely. Right now I might have another hernia and some of the doctors has overlooked it so chances are I will be back on bed, recuperating soon. I can't work in fast food restaurants because I sweat easily and I tend to get pimples too quickly when handling food with grease as well as get rashes. That's why I stay away from greasy food. I would gladly work at a place that is related to my career so all Bush have to do is help me find one and I will be happy. Have he helped me at all? No... SSI didn't help me at all. Believe me, if I had a choice between SSI and an I.T. job, I'd take the latter part instantly. EVEN if it pays me around 20K per year, I'd still take it, because it give me the opportunity to build my reputation as well as build confidence in me so I can move up. Can you move up if you are on SSI/SSD? Hell no... Even at times when I contacted a company about an I.T. position opening, they would say, "Ah umm.. even though your qualifications do meet our expectation, we need someone who can talk on the phone so good luck on your endeavors!" It's always about the phone?! why the fck do they need people on the phone for? I even made a suggestion, open up an e-mail account specified for me and I can take the "phone calls" via e-mail then solve it through e-mail. They thought it was too much. I even told them that one of my friends, who is deaf, is doing what I suggested right now and he's been doing that for almost 4 years. They haven't said a thing so it's B.S.

The point of this post is that I do want to work, but the problem is HOW? No matter how hard I try, I've sent my resume to over a million companies (maybe I'm exaggerating here but it's how it feel like to me) and I got only 5 to 10 responses about my resume and once they found out that I'm deaf, they drop me like hot potato in their hands.

So what. Get a job! Don't be picky with your job and you gotta start from any dirty jobs and then you will build it with your career.

Hey they have special schools for the handicapped right? Why dont they build special prisons for the handicapped so that way i can just go out and try to rob a bank.

Yes,,,

Dirty work is a good start...

Whoopi Goldberg worked at the Morgue...
She had to put makeup on dead people...
and then at the same time she did
some jokes on Comedy stand...
and she was so funny, she finally became
famous and rich.

So you gotta start from somewhere...

Even Jessica Lange was a waitress,
and act on stage in NYC, before becoming famous.

So there is nothiing wrong with working hard from
the bottom and work yourself up and up.
