ORLANDO, Fla. -- An 18-year-old was arrested on University of Central Florida property with an AK-47 assault rifle and ammunition that can penetrate bullet-proof vests.

Police said Jonathan Taylor, 18, was recently spotted at the Pegasus Pointe apartments, which is considered UCF property, and arrested on suspicion of trespassing.

When officers searched his vehicle, they found the AK-47 with 54 rounds of ammunition and another hand gun.

Officers told Local 6's Jessica Sanchez that the shots could easily penetrate bullet-proof vests.

"I think after the Virginia Tech thing, well it is scary regardless, but it's even more scary now," student Eric Ruzzo said.

"It is scary," student Alyssa Marder said. "You don't want bad things happening at your school, especially so close to home."

In January, students called police to report that Taylor was standing outside the campus wellness center trying to sell steroids, investigators said.

Police said a semi-automatic was found in Taylor's possession.

He was arrested and told to stay off UCF property at the time.

Officers said they will post Taylor's photo around campus, telling people to be on the look out for him after his release, Local 6 reported.
