Police: Teacher had drugs in home | News - Home

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. -
A Seminole County high school teacher is under investigation after drugs were found inside his home.

Richard Joy, 46, was arrested after police said they found 31 grams of marijuana, two glass pipes, a scale and other drug equipment inside his Altamonte Springs home.

Joy, a social studies teacher at Seminole High School in Sanford, was put on paid leave after his arrest last month.

On Tuesday, Joy lost his pay, and the school system's superintendent said he was fired that night.

"At times, he would come to school looking like he's real sleepy," said Elijah June, a ninth-grade student at Seminole High School. "If he has it at his home, there's no telling if he brings it to school or not. Students just might buy from him, there's no telling."
