Police Say Teen Shot Over McCain Sign

LEAVITTSBURG, Ohio (Oct. 28) - A teenager was wounded in the arm by a man who said he wanted to stop the boy and another from taking his John McCain yard sign, according to police.
Warren Township police Lt. Don Bishop said 50-year-old Kenneth Rowles told officers he got out a .22-caliber rifle Saturday afternoon to fire warning shots, not hurt anyone. The two shots hit the van the teens were in.
Rowles pleaded not guilty Monday to felonious assault. A preliminary hearing was set for Nov. 4, Election Day.
Kyree Flowers, the 17-year-old passenger in the van, was wounded in the arm and was treated at a hospital, Bishop said.
The victim and his cousin admitted stealing signs at the Rowles home and elsewhere, Bishop said Tuesday. Rowles had the only McCain sign on a street with numerous Barack Obama signs, according to Bishop.
He said there was no evidence the thefts were anything more than teen vandalism. No charges were filed against the boys.
Local Republican and Democratic officials said campaign signs have been disappearing frequently and people were frustrated.

That is truly awful! They should VOTE, not shoot or hit or steal or intimidate!

Shows that petty behaviors are not worth it. Someone could have died.

Both parties were wrong.

Yep. Two wrongs don't make a right.

However--remember that we have the right defend ourselves and property.

I don't advocate what the guy did but I do wonder what he was thinking when all of this was going on......

Yeah, I wouldn't shoot anyone over the theft of a sign that isn't even worth anything to start with.

People do have the right to defend their property, but shooting someone over a sign isn't worth the legal trouble.

Geez, shot over a freakin' yard sign? What a bunch of idiots from both sides.

I wouldn't either.

Shooting someone just to defend a McCain sign? It isn't as if this person couldn't have asked for another sign -- or made one himself.

I don't know what should I laugh or cry...

Shot teenager to defend McCain sign is most  because it does not relate to self-defense.

Well, they should leave a McCain sign alone, if the Obama signs were not stealin' by them. I THINK, maybe it is wrong to have McCain sign around NEAR where the Obama signs are ? :dunno2:

When I was at work, I've seen one guy ( driver ) drove by in the middle of intersection and the passenger got out of the car, ran to pull the McCain sign off the ground and moved it to other side. I don't know if, THAT sign belonged to that driver or passenger's or someone else's. My feelings were mixed up when I see this happened - the more I was thinkin' about it, the more I get concern about what's goin' to happen after the election is over. I am hopin' that I don't get killed by shot if, there's a civil war/or riot around.

I was workin' in the open public and I still am. A big risk!

Kind of shows you the mentality of the people who post those signs, though, doesn't it?
No, it doesn't. It shows the mentality of only the person who overreacts. It has nothing to do with other sign posters.

That as well as it shows the mentality of people that feel the need to restrict other's individual opinions by going onto their property and taking down their signs.....

Because it happend on an individual's personal property.

:rifle: sorry but those thieves should know better. 17 years old is responsible enough to know the laws and the consequence of it, especially in a state regarding gun laws as self-defense on one's property. stupid boy. very stupid... He deserves Darwin's Award.
