Why use a pocket TTY with Sidekick? Sidekick already has AIM and IP-Relay?

only if GPRS isn't available, define need TTY. :)

Sorry, I agreed with this as joke! I already had tested it and fool around this piece of junk! They are EASILY BREAKABLE!!! very poor manufacturing quality! Yes, they are made very cheaply. Sorry, I work inside manufacturing and I know the difference between good and bad manufacturing.

Don't believe me? Then, go ahead and waste your money to find out. :)

TTY is now dying!

FYI TTY machine is going out slowly, just like Kodak film! Within 5 years we won't be using true TTY machine anymore. We will be using pager, computer, and other means of communication than TTY.
Buying a stand alone TTY machine will be just wasting your money, instead of buying it, it would STILL be cheaper to buy SK than TTY! Same principle, it is cheaper to buy digital camera and you can re-use over and over, than to buy camera then buy film that can only take once.

When was the last time I use REAL TTY conversation? Gee! that is real long time ago!

:dance2: I agree with you diehardbiker, but, there are still people that do not have pagers, computer or any type of handheld communicator which resorts to some of us to still use the TTY to communicate with them. Good point though diehardbiker.

Yes your right there is still people out there that still using TTY, BUT when their TTY machine breaks down, they will have few choices. Used computer, you can find for 250 dollars something and hook up with IP relay and can use IM to chat. OR buy sidekick for 199 bux and subscribe 30 dollars a month for wireless service, OR buy 400 dollars TTY machine and STILL pay 30 bux a month for landline phone. What is likely choice a person would pick?
Believe it or not, TTY manufacturers had lost more than 98% of sales in the past 5 years! Meaning that 98% of buyer had decided to go other way instead of TTY.

I no longer have landline phone service. I still have TTY hooked up on my ex-landline just for 911 purpose. (thanks to FCC law that requires that 911 line to be left intact EVEN after the service has cut off). The only thing I have connected is broadband internet it works so well for me!

98% of TTY sales has been lost in the past 5 years, what does that mean?
TTY machine is pretty much basic machine. It does not have much features, at what price tag? 400 dollars? Comparing to Sidekick which offers MUCH more than what TTY can offer, plus gone wireless.

OFC TTY won't be gone overnight BUT they are DEFINETLY Dying as I already noticed. Even though I have network of friends who does business with deaf devices. They all told me they are struggling to diversify because of huge loss with TTY sales.

there is no 911 allow on ip relay or relay serive... Only TTY is avaiable for help.

I hope someday, they will have text-message emergency like UK and China have one.

TTY 911 calls though the cell phone, not always work. Depending on device capablity. But EVEN if Cell phone have 911 traceablity capacity, then all you need to do is just dial 911 and within 10 minutes cop will show up where you are! EVEN without TTY hook up! But again some cell phone that don't have GPS built in and if you had flown to opposite coast, and I guarantee you that 911 operator will be very confused and transfer to the 911 center where your cell phone orignate! Its in newspaper recently when a guy flew to Florida and had emergency then making 911 call, it route to New York city 911 dispatcher instead of Florida where he had trouble at.

911 calls are possible through state or IP relay, but most dispatch centers are equipped with TTYs, so it is best to call them directly. Nothing will stress us out more than a 911 call.

Pocket TTY with sidekick WITH ASCII mode ON!

You can use the terinmal in your sidekick, set it into ASCII mode then connect to your computer that have telnet server in that have dial up, that way you can dial to your computer with your sidekick. THEN it'll get you on the TTY with ASCII (Baud rate 300). Try it on your own sidekick if you have terinmal software in it. Let me know if you need more spec how to do it, I'll be happy to help. Have fun!

I have never heard of this. Where can I find info about this? (link?) I looked at FCC website and found nothing.
