Please tell Congress to raise the minium wage!

Minimum wage jobs aren't intended to be life-long full-time careers. People aren't expected to support familes on minimum wage jobs. Minimum wage work is for entry level or supplemental income or training level work that requires low-level skills and little training.

People working at minimum wage jobs should be encouraged to seek further training and advancement to higher paying jobs rather than increasing the pay for their current jobs.

The marketplace of supply and demand, not the government, should control wages.

I totally agree!

It's best wage for 16-18 yrs old and depend on city. My hometown, the apt cost like $200 a month on one-bedroom compare to big city where I live are start at $350 and up.

If you increase the minimum wage, the cost of living will also increase. So there will be NO benefit.

Minimum wage varies state to state. Like for example, California's minimum wage is $6.75 per hour statewide, but $8.50 per hour min in San Francisco due to high cost of living. It's for companies with more than 10 employees. Washington state's minimum wage is $7.63 per hour, they passed their own law increasing their minimum wage every year to keep up with cost of living back in 2001.

The cost of living will naturally increase, regardless. So its best to just leave those people behind?

I love how it is believed that its the Republicans fault. Here is something to think about.

People say Republicans are against the 'little guy' and only want the rich to get richer. How many of you have had a job with a company that was owned by a poor man? Lets cut taxes so the rich dont get richer...then, lets raise the minimum wage so businesses can't afford it in the long term...so they lay people off. Then when those that are laid off go to the welfare line, lets tell them 'Nope...can't pay you because we cut taxes and there is no more money for you'...and then that person who could have had a job is now out on the street.

While I am all for people making more money, that money has to come from somewhere...

Besides, I thought this was america, where we can all strive to better ourselves. What is the point in developing your own company..building it from the ground up...just to have the government say 'Oh..you are making too much money...you should be penalized'. We see the argument all the time against Wal-Mart and Microsoft....well, I say Good For Them for developing a company that supports the global economy. Lets put Wal-Mart and Microsoft out of business, then raise the taxes to support all the jobless former Wal-Marts and Microsoft employees.

We'd like to believe that Capitalism works out for everyone, but the sad truth, just like Socialism, it doesn't. Money and power corrupt. The few at the top will do what they can to retain that prestige. This has been shown through and through with the terrible amount of corporate scandals over the past years. If there were to be no minimum wage is so many Ayn Rand fans would like, what would stop a corporation from paying their low level employees zilch? What would stop wages from drastically decreasing? Well, then you might say "but then the cost of production would decrease, leading to lower prices and a lower cost of living." If this were the case, it would mean deflation, which is terrible for a growing economy. Now that is all assuming that corporations followed through in lowering prices after drops in the cost of production. However, never underestimate the power of human greed.
