HAMILTON, Ohio -- A Hamilton pediatrician could spend the rest of his life behind bars after a jury found him guilty of sex crimes involving former patients.

A jury has found Dr. Mark Blankenburg guilty of 16 sex charges involving patients. The charges include gross sexual imposition and corruption of a minor.

"Every time I heard 'guilty,' I felt a jolt go through me," said one of the victims who testified in the trial.

The victim doesn't want his name published. He says, "This is a big part of my life I can put behind me and start over."

He says he reported what was going on because now he's a father. "What was I going to tell my kid I do for money? I take money from a child molester," he said.

Blankenburg hugged his twin brother, Scott, who's facing similar sex charges, as well as his sister and father before he was handcuffed and taken to jail. Scott Blankenburg was out on bond.

Despite the verdict, some former patients are still backing Blankenburg.

"I know deep down he didn't do it. I know the kind of person he is," said Sean Stockstill, 23. He says Blankenburg never abused him, and Blankenburg spent a lot of time with his family.

Judge Keith Speath will rule in the coming days or weeks on drug and bribery charges. The victims testified that Blankenburg gave them drugs and money to keep quiet.

A sentencing date has not been set. Blankenburg could spend the rest of his life in prison.

"Mark Blankenburg damaged a lot of lives, and we're now in a position where he won't be able to do that for a long time to come," said Assistant Prosecutor Jason Phillabaum.

Blankenburg is also facing child porn charges. A trial date for those accusations is not set.

Dr. Scott Blankenburg faces two dozen similar charges over allegedly using his Fairfield medical practice to arrange sexual encounters with teenage boys who were his patients. He goes to trial this spring.
