Pay Up For Push-Up: Monroeville Woman Sues Victoria's Secret - Money News Story - WTAE Pittsburgh
Victoria's Secret is accused of stealing a Monroeville woman's secret -- the design for a special kind of push-up bra -- in a federal lawsuit that was filed Wednesday in Pittsburgh.
Heather Knox told WTAE Channel 4 Action News anchor Michelle Wright that she got a patent for the multi-layer uplift bra and presented her design to Victoria's Secret. The company turned her down and later copied the design, Knox said.
"It's very personal and dear to me," Knox said. "It's my project and my idea, and it's just a matter of principle."
Knox got a patent in July 2006 and claims that she presented her idea to Victoria's Secret's head bra designer in January 2007.

"Told her a little bit about it. She told me to send more information, so I sent a PowerPoint and the patent, and that was the last I heard from her. I couldn't get any further response," Knox said.
Victoria's Secret has a bra for sale with an identical two-piece sling design. It's called the BioFit 7-Way bra.
"We are asking that they stop infringing Ms. Knox's patent, and also asking for compensation based on that infringement," attorney John C. Thomas said.
Wright called Victoria's Secret for a comment on Knox's claims. The media relations company that handles Victoria's Secret told her to send an e-mail instead.
"Thank you for writing. Unfortunately, we cannot comment on your request for more information," said the reply to Wright's e-mail.
Knox is asking that Victoria's Secret stop selling the bra and give her adequate compensation based on sales.
"If I didn't firmly believe in it, I wouldn't do it," Knox said.
Thomas said that Victoria's Secret has 20 days to respond to Knox's lawsuit.
