I got a letter from 'PAWS WITH A CAUSE' saying I will be getting a Needs Assessment visit in 18-24 months of receipt of my letter! The letter just came today! I will have to wait this long to see if I am eligible to get a hearing dog , and then money has to raise to train a dog before the training can start! This could take over two years to get another hearing dog! I was told it would take a year when I called ! Has anyone gotten a hearing dog from 'PAWS WITH A CAUSE 'or do know of anyone that did and how long did you have to wait? I was not sure if I should post this with our pets or here?
I am somewhat familiar with Paws With a Cause and have in the past known one or two puppy raisers with them. I don't know about the average length of waiting time for a dog with PWC but I do know that often wait times for service dogs are long ,because there generally is a waiting list, and it takes almost or at least a year of basic training with puppies which includes additional prep for service work, and then the actual official service dog training begins at the facility once they are returned to the program at about 12 months. Sometimes there is a dog that goes part way through and then it is determined that this dog would actually NOT be a good candidate based on some temperament or personality trait that comes out as they mature. There is a very long waiting list for adoptive homes for partially trained service dogs that have not been able to make the strenuous requirements to be formally placed.
