I'm curious. He has been spraying something stinky on floors, clothes, etc. Will removing the balls help reduce that? He's 1 year old right now. I think he's just marking his territory or something.

Yes he is , and neutering him will help stop that.

neutering will also stop urges to stray and will prevent dominant stress issues
also he will live longer as well:giggle:

have had cats all my life and can easily understand them

I also spoil them rotten

neutering him as soon as you can is the best than waiting too long. it would be hard for him to change the habit. after done with neutering sometimes he still can spray. so get it done asap. sorry. =?

Yeah, that's what I thought as well. One of a friend told us the same thing, too.

I had my three cats done when they all were under 15 weeks old. Most they prefer around 5 to 9 months old. But in my witness with veterinarians had kittens done within 12 to 15 weeks because they had no choice but got them done asap. It is a standard recommended 5 to 9 months old. My three cats were alright when they were 12 weeks old that they were too young to have them done. For female cats are more complicated and be sure they are all healed properly.
To be honest, *knock on wood* I have no experience of witnessing or smelling what my cats spray any where in the house except the litterboxes. I wonder if it were the case that they had done early at their ages instead of 6 months old. Lot of my friends have visiting my home and told me that they didn't smell anything as i wasn't sure if i did not realize if cats did spray here. Nope. Probably something with the age that cats got done early. I had to knock on wood again.
My friend has a cat who got done and still spray anyway. it depends on what cats' pissy moods were. ha

That's interesting. I think he's probably jealous that Patches is getting all the attention with the kids and Sparkles isn't getting much attention but of course we pet him time to time whenever he wants. Sparkles used to be a biter and scratch people if you pet him too long. He doesn't do it anymore. I trained him to stop doing that by giving him cat treats at the same time petting him which seems to work.

It sounds like Sparkles may get craving of attentions by doing it to piss you off. Oops. so you said, sparkles is 1year old. so how old is patches? 1 year old is still a young boy who thinks biting is ok. But you did the right thing to teach sparkles not to bit. Please get both of them done real soon. It costs usually 100, depending on where you live may be cheaper or more. It is more worth it than having more kittens on the way. we have too many kittens around here. :(

Patches is 5 months old, I am not sure. The vet here charges $80 to fix and get shots for the cats, not both of them for $80 but each of them. Both of them are male. Patches is VERY, VERY friendly cat!

Snip them off!

Yes, it's the urge to mark their territory that's the problem.

I had a roommate who had a female cat that would pee everywhere. She even peed on my roommate's hand while my roommate was petting her.

So, she finally went to get it spayed.

That is a good deal for 80 bucks. Glad Patches is a very friendly cat. So patches is much easier for you guys. get them done asap anyway! sparkles and patches will become close friends within a month or so. :)

Yeah, female costs more to fix.

Yeah, we are trying to do that soon as we can. Thanks again!

ah, thats true. I wish I own a female kitty! all my life was owning male cats. Last time, I tried to adopt female cats but i fell in love with them without looking at their private parts. :giggle: They all are male. SO in the near future, i will have to look first before falling in love with them. lol

One more thing to add....I noticed that Sparkles won't go bathroom where Patches go bathroom in the cat litter. I think we have to use a seperate one because Sparkles won't push away Patches when he's being greedy eating the cat food in the bowl. Sparkles acts like he's afraid of standing up for himself. Of course, we have 2 bowls so they both can eat at peace.

 That's funny. ;)

I'm glad you are not punishing the cat for doing what comes naturally. I had a friend who would rub the offending cat's face into the sprayed surface, and one time I saw him hold down the cat
and piss on it. Jeeez. Neutering is the only way to go.

Yeah, punishing the cat doesn't work at all...so we had to put them in a room where cat litter is for the night. We don't want them pissing all over the place, ugghh.

I had a cat long ago I named Puja, which is Indian for "devotion." He used to piss around my sleeping area, so I imagine it was simply marks of ownership. One day he came home with slashed balls and I took him to the vet to complete the neutering and the spraying stopped.
