This CONSERVATIVE ALERT is a special message from RightMarch.com:

ALERT: Back in 2002, PBS did a report on the growing use of ILLEGAL aliens to fight fires. Private contractors, hired by western states to train "hand crews" of fire fighters, began hiring migrant workers from Mexico and Central America, many of them illegal aliens who speak almost no English, who are in the U.S. with fake ID cards purchased on the black market.

In 2003, concerned that having large numbers of people on fire crews with limited English skills may compromise safety if instructions are not understood, the Oregon Department of Forestry decided to take action. Did they decide to require new hires to be able to speak English, the language of this country? Did they decide to enforce the laws already on the books, against hiring illegal aliens?

Nope. According to a new report from KATU-TV, they enacted a new law that requires firefighter crew bosses to be BILINGUAL... or lose their jobs.

You read that right. Instead of requiring new firefighter recruits to speak English -- or even be here LEGALLY -- they decided to require crew bosses to speak SPANISH, or be demoted or fired.

And now it's actually happening.

Jaime Pickering, a Crew Boss overseeing 20 firefighters, was demoted in rank to Squad Boss because he refused to be forced to learn Spanish -- and then was busted all the way down in rank when he went public with his story. Others are actually losing their jobs over this.

THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS. At a time when Americans are demanding that the federal government secure the border against the illegal alien invasion, English-speaking heroes like Jaime Pickering are being demoted, and even fired, for refusing to bow to politically-correct pressures from pro-illegal alien forces inside the government.

TAKE ACTION: Pickering was willing to step forward and tell the world what these government officials are doing -- and now he's paying the price. Isn't it time the government officials "paid a price" of their own?

We've set up our site so you can send a FREE message, directly to the Oregon Forestry Department's Fire Program Director, protesting the demotion and firing of firefighters, just because they speak English instead of Spanish. Click below NOW to send a message demanding that the Department *reverse* its new enforcement policy on requiring Spanish-speaking fire fighting contractors:

I did the right thing and signed the petition and hope he gets his job back and a promotion on his job for standing his ground. You can clearly see how the politically correct establishment is trying to destroy this country in each and every way that the politically correct establishment can possibly think up of which is really evil.

I encourage you to do the right thing and sign the petition for America's safety sake. God Bless America !!!!! :) :thumb:

By the way before you accuse me of a such thing. Please think about it. These guys from Latin America will not get health benefits if they are burned beyond 3rd degree burns in a fire fighting accident. The pay wages for them is so low that it is not worth for them to endanger their lives. If they want to work with fire fighting crews in America then apply for a real immigration green card and not on the black market and go to fire fighting school for it and learn to speak English which requires perfect communication and clear understanding in a life and death situation like this also, This is a very dangerous job and not just anybody can apply for the job and there has to be rigorous screening and training before he can ever set his foot on a roaring firestorm in the forest to fight fires. The liberals do not care about the safety and the health of the Latin American firefighters who oftentimes are illegal aliens and not lawful legal residents. See the big difference between the Conservatives and the liberals.

NoNoNoNo big difference between conservatives and liberals, convservaitives does not care about health ins or people getting hurt, liberals are the one who fight for us all to get safe work and have all health insurance. Conservatives are for business who love to rip people off by not give workers the meet alike workcomp and health insurance for all workers. We are dealing with this now with my husband's work-relate injury and people does not give shit about him esp with the conservatives, they are the one who think of themselves.

Uh, Firefighters, Police, etc are required to know 2nd language in all 50 states, you never know when you confront someone who speaks different language.

I agree with you. LAPD is required to know how speak 2nd language, or some more depends on them.

btw, I'm glad that you are back to AD.

Same in KY

I just trained someone new at work. She's almost finished with her law enforcement degree and wants to join KY Highway Patrol. One of their requirements is fluency in Spanish! She was suprised when I asked her about cultural diversity and started telling her about Deaf having probs with cops. Maybe these things are covered in the police academy. :dunno:

Yes, it is fine to teach 2nd language but .....to hire illegal aliens then turn around and tell them to learn spanish so they can break the laws of the United States of America or be fired is not right. That was the whole point of the petition and I signed it.

That's right.

My father is a firefighter, and due to my being deaf, he knows some sign language. Sometimes there are fire runs where the victim/victims are deaf. When this happens, they often call my dad to come on the scene to help out (if he isn't on the same Engine or Ladder).

My dad has dealt with all sorts of situations with lots of different languages, different kinds of people. Often things are much easier if you are communicate with the other person.

You can be a legal immigrant or citizen and not speak English. While I personally don't care whether or not we force everyone to learn English, the bottom line is that if you force everyone to conform to your language, then it's not fair to everyone else.

I'd love it if everyone spoke English only. Problem is, I can't expect deaf people to do that, and once you allow that exception, why shouldn't you allow everyone else an exception? Not everyone else lives around English speaking members of their family, friends, and community. Just because you have a job where your boss speaks English only doesn't mean you have to learn English.

Can you please post a link for that? I don't think they got that word in this location.

Does that include volunteer firefighters and EMTs?

Does that include those already serving, or just newly hired?

I just checked one of the local police departments. Here are their requirements:

A second language is not required here. :dunno:

i will ask my nephew as he is a firefighter but a volunteer one so maybe it have nothing to do with small town firefighters? he does know sign language due to me so thats a big plus.

Very interesting to read about that..

A second language is not required here either. The problem with our department is that there is no additional incentive for officers to learn a second language. In some agencies, officers get paid a little more if they know second and third languages. Here, we don't get anything extra. I know it isn't all about the money, but there should be some reward for those that go out and learn a second language...and then get called up from their usual assignments to assist with translating. Recently I shared a story about getting a phone call on a Saturday afternoon when I was off because someone who knew sign language was needed and I can get to the station quickly.
