Hay/grain stores told me that my local farms did complain about coyotes till this morning, as I put clothes and boots on and headed out the door, I noticed my horse mare Rosie looking alarmingly into the woods, and to my shock was two good size coyotes standing on top my manure pile. I yelled at them to get the F*&^ out of here, and the ran off, but this really has me concerned. I have a small two daughters and planning get small pony who I have been questioning and How can I keep these coyotes away, and will they go after my daughters and soon get pony? :Ohno:

I need buying paintball gun asap! and How long I can keep storage the paintballs?

Coyotes are not often a threat to humans because of fear but however some may act aggressively toward humans through. The best solution to keep coyotes off your property is get a guard dog or build a tall fence around the property and make sure you put either large rocks or cement buried outside of the fence to prevent them from digging their way in. Some people prefer electric fence and if you are plan on getting a pony, it would be best to build a netwire roof to keep them out. If your daughters are outside playing, it would be best if they're under strict supervision, especially at night time too.

I know a lot about coyotes cause my second son had a school project about them, it was pretty neat learning so much about what they do etc.

(edit) I'm against killing or harming wild animals unless it's necessary.

Coyotes can be dissuaded from eating your garbage, pets, and other animals by employing a variety of humane methods.

Install netwire around farm animals. Coyotes climb well. It may be necessary to build a netwire roof as well.
Build tall fences around yards and property, with extensions buried underground to prevent coyotes from digging their way in.
Keep pets and pet food indoors, especially at night.
Coyotes can mate and breed with dogs. Spay and neuter your dogs to prevent them from being wooed away and killed by coyotes.
Keep garbage cans in enclosed areas. Secure lids on the cans.
Use loud noises and lights to frighten coyotes away.
Use guard dogs to help keep coyotes away from sheep.
Coyotes often den under haystacks, near farm buildings, or around homes. Remove brush and ground cover to take away hiding places.

Fencing
A well-built net or woven-wire fence can be 100-percent effective protecting pigs, poultry and sheep from coyotes. The fence should be at least 7 feet high to keep coyotes from jumping over it.

An outward slant to the wire at the top can be added to keep coyotes from climbing over, and an apron of wire extending outward from the bottom will keep them from digging under the fence. If the apron isn't used, a few well-placed snares or traps should catch the occasional coyote that digs under the fence.

A shorter, woven-wire fence can be made taller by attaching extensions to the posts and adding extra wire.

A high-tensile electric fence can serve as both a livestock and predator-proof fence if it is built to the right specifications. Contact a fencing company for specific details.

Initial costs for this type of fence are comparable to or even lower than a woven-wire fence with barbed wire at the top. Beginning with a hot wire at the bottom, the fence should have at least 7 strands of alternating hot and ground high-tensile wire. Be sure the wires are stretched tight.

The fence must be maintained to ensure there are no washouts that will allow coyotes to crawl under without getting shocked.

Installing a single electric wire near the bottom of the fence to keep coyotes from digging or crawling under the woven wire is a waste of time and money. A high-tensile predator-proof fence built to specifications is the best option. Fences can be cost effective for small enclosures but may prove expensive for large pastures. In the case of high-dollar exotic animals, a high fence or high-tensile electric fence should be considered. Losing a few expensive animals could quickly justify the expense of a predator-proof fence.

Those are good helpful tips to keep coyotes away. Hope this helps :)

We lost our cat to a coyote/wolf when it came onto our property. Part of life-- oh well.

Just follow the above suggestions afterall, we are living in their space.

Nice.......... Paintball shoot.. would be nice... Let coyotes suffer stuck the colorful on body.. LOL
So Ppl can see the coyotes' color body...

At that time I used to live with my mom and I lost 2 of my cats to the damn coyotoes. and I saw a few time in my mom's yard.

Nothing to be alarmed .. but best is to keep your small pets indoor. Coyotes are everywhere these days. Won't attack large animals such as horses, cows, etc. One was attacked by the coyote and was brought into my work. I had witnessed the small dog -- I think it was a rat terrier -- The skin in his rear end and the tail were gone. (definitely reminded me of a turkey dinner on plate) All were shredded!! He was put down due to an old age and it was difficult to repair the damage.

That is true that it is part of life cycle. We, natives, respect all wild animals as our brother and sister spirits. Better to learn how to prevent coyote or wolves from Calvin. He has pretty good points to protect your property and family. Just don't kill the wild animals unless you can kill for defending for yourself and family. All wild animals have a right to be on Mother Earth. Many of the wild animals are pushing up North and it is a hard life for wild animals not use to their new habitat. They need their old habitat or old den. So respect them. :fingersx:

I highly recommanded you to get a rifle rather than a paintball. That's what we, ranchers, do in Texas. heh...just a suggestion.

I have no gut with real bullets to killing animals!! My friend has guns.. But

I am preferring a paintball gun because hurtful hit with paintball.! ;):)

Coyotes rarely go after horses or ponies because they know that one kick in the face will be fatal to them. They go after rabbits, squirrels, mice, rats, etc. They might be interested in any mice that you have around your barn. If a very old or very young or very sick horse in a big field, a coyote might try to get it. The best thing you can do is to make noise with pots and pans or a bell when you see the coyotes, or anytime. They will stay away from the noises.

No kind of gun is good because it could go in the eye.

I am not worrying about my horse! My Rosie will be killing them! :giggle: She is huge 16hd! ;)

BUT...

They do after the pony or small livestock!! One of my friend's older pony killed by Coyotes herd!! :( At Hay Store recently told me that Coyotes killed goat and chickens at a farm near my home! :/

If I am getting pony and maybe will need to get Donkey or llama to companion. :hmm:

What about BB gun. I have them.

Please do not use the BB because they do not recognize what you are holding it. They think that it is a rock or metal. Unless you shoot in the air with a real gun, they will remember the sounds that they can't come to your territory. But, not the point about the territory because they are wild and hungry. Wild animals are having a hard time to find new homes and food shortages. We, people, are building so many houses everywhere especially commercial buildings because we invade their territories that we don't deserve it. Most native wild animals are disappearing slowly nowadays.

Yeah, I think I am weird. Actually, another coyote group may show up again even a shooter might thinks that they are the same group.

I smell something around here. I think that there is a cheese somewhere. Shh. Please don't tell the coyotes to find me because I am a mouse. I love extra sharp cheese. hmm. I'm packing my clothes to get ready to go to Florida soon.
