Well, since Biden is a Catholic, we shall see how he works his way around that one.

Guess I wont be getting my communion whenever I visit South Carolina huh

I find it interesting how something like this could occur in one of the Bible Belt states. :hmm:

Completely and totally unbelievable. Such hypocracy coming from a "man of the cloth."

The one waving the flag and singing jingoistic songs? Yup. :)

Yet another example of why religion and politics shouldn't go hand in hand. :mad2:
They don't go "hand in hand." The Catholic Church has no control of our government. Obviously, if it did, abortion wouldn't be legal in the USA, and we know that isn't the case.

Thank god they have no control. They're nothing but an archaic institution that's out of touch with reality.

If he were a hypocrite, he would be telling his parishioners that morality has no place in making political decisions.

"Voting for a pro-abortion politician when a plausible pro-life alternative exists constitutes material cooperation with intrinsic evil, and those Catholics who do so place themselves outside of the full communion of Christ's Church and under the judgment of divine law. Persons in this condition should not receive Holy Communion until and unless they are reconciled to God in the Sacrament of Penance, lest they eat and drink their own condemnation."

According to the link you can if you do penance first:

"Persons in this condition should not receive Holy Communion until and unless they are reconciled to God in the Sacrament of Penance, lest they eat and drink their own condemnation."

Yet another example of the idiocy of religion.

Funny how religions preach tolerance but practice intolerance.
Religions should tolerate abortion?

He's being a hypocrite -- period. The Catholic Church has absolutely NO right to dictate to its' parishioners who they should vote for. Politics should stay out of issues that concern religion.

I think that's ridiculous. No parishioner should be penalized for the choices (i.e. supporting Obama) they make.

By this priest dictating to parishioners who they can or cannot support, he *is* demonstrating some level of control. Therefore, in this case, religion and politics DO go hand in hand.

Obama is not pro-abortion. He is pro-choice. It is a legal and medical matter for each to decide on their own behalf.

The last I checked, the way an individual chose to cast a vote was a private matter, and is not a matter of public record. It most certainly is not grounds for ex-communication under the doctrine of the Catholic Church, any more than a soldier going to war is grounds for ex-communication despite the Church's anti-war stance.

This is a clear violation of the separation of church and state.

Religions should tolerate abortion?

Religions preach forgiveness and the fallibility of man. Therefore, they should practice what they preach. They also take advantage of separation of church and state by taking advantage of a tax free status. Therefore, they should also abide by that which take advantage.
