Can I just say that I think it's so amusing how the parties are so AFRAID of the candidate of the other party. I'm pretty young, so I am not too experienced with previous elections, but it seemed that it was more about anger and disagreements, but this time around, seems like people are scared of whats going to happen when either candidate is elected. So far I've heard:
- Disabled people will be wiped out.
- We will go into more wars.
- Terrorists will attack us.
- Most of us will go poor.
- Countries will attack us.
- Our country will become immoral.

I mean honestly, Im for Obama, but I don't think McCain's actually that bad.

(Really.. the only scary thing here I see is Palin.. come on people!)

Well, Daredevel, I'm not young, and I agree with you. Actually, I had no disagreements with McCain until this campaign. I have to admit that he has always been a moderate Republican, and in the past I have agreed with some of his political stances. What completely turned me off was the way that he chose to run his campaign. If we want to stand on moral ground, as many McCain supporters seem wont to do, then it is completely hypocritical to endorse a candidate that has behaved with a total lack of ethical conviction in his campaign efforts. It is the same sort of tactic that turned me away from Hilary Clinton in the primaries.

And I agree...Sarah Palin is frightening. And that is another reason that McCain did not get my vote. It is only logical to take into account that the man would be the oldest president ever elected to a first term, and that he has numerous health concerns. His choice of VP is of great concern, because on the change that he will not be able to fulfill his term, the VP takes over. The thought of Sarah Palin running this country terrifies me. Statistically speaking, there is a high probability that McCain would not be able to finish out a term that he was elected to.

I for one, would love to see a woman in the White House. Just not Sarah Palin. I want a woman in the White House that will do the American Public and the gender proud. I don't see that happening with her.

I agree, Daredevel.

Some of the reasons why I refused to vote for a McCain/Palin ticket include:

* Sarah Palin (The thought of her acting as Vice-President let alone President really frightens me)
* McCain's bad temper (If McCain can't control his temper under ordinary circumstances, who's to say he can do the same when faced with more stressful situations and crises)
* McCain's health (i.e. cancer)
* Possibility of troops not being withdrawn from or remaining in Iraq for an indefinate amount of time (IMO, we've been there long enough and it's time to start withdrawing more troops)
* The possibility of McCain cutting government programs that help the disabled, elderly, minorities and the middle class (This has been the behavior of Republican Presidents in the past)
* Negative campaigning against Obama (Although there was negativity on both sides, the majority of it came from McCain)
* The possibility of McCain involving the U.S. in yet another war (McCain comes across to me as a "warmongerer.")
* The country's poor state of the economy (Can America afford 4 more years of the same Bush policies?)
* From what I can tell, McCain doesn't have a good plan to help *all* people with disabilities (I couldn't find any such information on his website)
* Possibility of raising taxes on the middle class (Again, this is a practice that has been continuously practiced by Republican Presidents such as Reagan, G. H. W. Bush and George W. Bush)

Here are the reasons why I plan to vote for Obama/Biden:

* Obama is an inspiration for change that our country so deperately needs
* Obama once served as a civil rights lawyer, so he understands what it means to fight for the rights of minorities
* Obama has shown ethical moral behavior by choosing to work on the south side of Chicago despite the fact that his Harvard law degree could have enabled him to work in the corporate world
* Obama is promising no new taxes for families making $250,000 or less and individuals making $200,000 or less.
* Obama has excellent communication skills which can be an asset when it comes to dealing with world leaders during time of conflict, crises, etc.
* Joe Biden has more foreign policy experience to act as a good Vice-President
* Obama is cool, calm and collected and doesn't let small things get to him
* Obama promises to fund programs that help the disabled, elderly and minorities
* Given his upbringing, Obama understands what it's like to struggle and be part of the middle class
* Obama plans to completely withdraw troops from Iraq during his term as President

I've done *alot* of research between last January and today, have watched all of the debates since January and have watched all 3 cable news networks, so I didn't arrive at my decision lightly.

Given all the research I've done, I feel quite confident about my support for Obama. :)
