Oh wow, interesting picture from CDC.

The constitution restriction already prevented the ban on food or drink that what we are eating or drinking.

He is not above the law, only Tyrannies would remain happy.

Yes, if he wants more control - go become a leader in China, North Korea, Russia or his favorite destination - Cuba.

Even though it is very true. Government really need not to do much as it is not their job. The Society themselves WILL see themselves and realize the problem, their offsprings would witness and realize and will figure way to take care of themselves.

Want proof? 10 years ago, we rarely seen bottle of water in stores, just gallons at most. Now we are seeing more and more selling bottled water... Did government make it happen? Government have not done nothing! But there are people who already woke up and start drinking water.

The secret is what?

EDUCATION

interesting.. it is very serious big law strictly reason!

Many of you may notice quote in my signature and said by George Washington buddies. Here is the link where i got from. Quote by Thomas Jefferson: If people let the government decide what foods ...

See, Mayor didn't respect our forefather's friends, what a shame on him.

BTW, that quote in my signature is one of the reason why I am so pissed off at our government and look them as tyrannies already. Long story, wish I could explain why I felt that way (TMI for public).

snopes.com: Thomas Jefferson on Medicine

his quote was taken out of context. it has nothing to do with food, medicine, healthcare, etc.

Actually, I believe the quote says exactly what he thinks it says. Yes it was the part of a larger answer (quotes often are) but I think it is pretty clear that Jefferson found the idea of government mandating what people could eat to be ridiculous. Although I think he would have been more approving at the local level rather than the federal level.

in 1800's? lol! there was barely any federal government at all at that time... not even healthcare or social security or IRS or Navy. In this case - his quote is completely taken out of context and not even related to this subject at all. not even close.

that's precisely what he wanted. he detested the federalism and centralized power. his quote was referring to separation of church and state.

that was exactly my thought to your

but I think it is pretty clear that Jefferson found the idea of government mandating what people could eat to be ridiculous.

hint - he didn't mean that literally.

He was giving an analogy. The analogy makes it clear that he believed these possibilities to be ridiculous.

You edited. (Sneaky)

1) Yes the quote is part of an analogy give in a much longer answer. However that analogy makes clear his thoughts on just how ridiculous such regulations would be.

2) Yes he detested federalism. I believe most of us are aware of that.

you will note that he also knew that it was too idealist to let the people decide for themselves. that concept is noble and wonderful but sometimes it is necessary for government to step in and start "governing".... such as this soda ban. (government is "people" too).

in this case - the corporations have gotten too powerful and shrewd. despite of public awareness, people are continuing to harm themselves to the point where obesity is a national crisis in this country. it's a national security issue as well.

that's why Mayor Bloomberg felt compelled to step in and flex the power of people to corporations (corporation is "people" too).

 Pretty sure Jefferson would have hated Bloomberg. No way of knowing though.

:wtflol: What do fat people have to do with that?

we have to pay for their health problems - medicare/medicaid/social security/etc.

if they can't work, they don't pay tax. if they're disabled, we pay for it. if we're fat and broke, there's nobody fit to defend this country.

and it is serious issue for our military too?

That is exact what excise taxes are for. Bloomberg is free to add city excise taxes on sugary drinks if he wants to and that would be better government than ban them which is what Tyrannies are doing.

so that means you disagree with government ban on pestides that are known to be harmful and destructive to our health and environment?
