my orientation is jan 11th and my first class is jan 12th:) here are my classes for first semester: Anatomy and physiology 1, intro to psych, nursing practicum practical and lab(clinical), nursing theory, and health care consumer

I am excited to start...still haven't got my stethoscope yet but hopefully soon:)

im wishes i would become nurse but i love work with baby but i learn my lesson from my mom when she bring tons of books when my mom goals to become nurse im so jealous of her so they now my mom is RN known as (Register Nurse) i know its hard being as nurse 7am to 7p and 7p tp 7a its 12 hours!! Oh my lord!!
 
Good luck!! my classes start back up January 3rd! I'll be done August 2012. It is so much fun, but hard work.:D
 
Hi Alicia...I will be graduating this spring with my RN. The way I did it, and the way our schools in my area pretty much demand you do it, is to get the pre-requisites out of the way first, like the A&P, Psychology, etc...that way they are done and when you start the nursing program, all you have to worry about are your nursing classes and clinicals. I am glad I had to do it this way, because I unintentionally chose the hardest school in my area, and I don't think I could have handled all of those classes at the same time.

And as for being squeamish about anatomy & phys., a lot of schools have cut back and the labs are all done by computer now. I got thru A&P I and A&P II without so much as seeing a pickled mouse. I felt a little cheated at first, but once you are in the thick of it and spend every minute of your life studying, all you care about are your grades.

I can't wait to graduate, I can't wait to start making some MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What type of nursing are you planning to do? Do you know yet? You will be exposed to many areas in clinical, but I found that a lot of students come into the program already knowing what they want to do.
 
Well I really wanna get into plastics later on but at first I wanna do maternity or work in pediatrics somewhere in the childrens hospital:)
 
I didn't enjoy maternity so much - though I did enjoy looking at and feeding the babies - but we had a 2 week rotation at a pediatric center that housed mostly wards of the state, and I did enjoy that, even though it was sad too. It was children with moderate to severe disabilities who had basically been abandoned by families that couldn't or wouldn't deal with them. Takes a special nurse to work with these kids, they need lots of love and the nurses are pretty much surrogate parents.

I am still not sure what I want to do. I am going to continue on in school for my BSN and maybe masters, but I was thinking after graduating that I would like to work with kids as well. I'd love to be a school nurse, but am also looking into the rapidly growing holistic fields, and into art and animal therapy.

Good Luck to you - study hard, stay on top of things, don't ever let yourself get behind! One good thing to use are the NCLEX study guides...though i see you do not live in the US, so there must be a Canadian equivalent, it would be the study guide for the test you will take after you graduate. I found these books very helpful with studying. And do practice test questions, as many as you can, all the time, as part of your studying routine.
 
Alicia, good luck with your nurse training, I'm sure you will enjoy it. I graduated last Friday after finishing my training as a mental health nurse.

Do you know which stethoscope you will be using? The one I was provided with by my Disabled Students Allowance was quite inadequate for my hearing loss, but in the UK we have this strange system whereby you are provided with equipment without getting the opportunity to try it first! Fortunately because I was training in mental health nursing I didn't have a need to use it during my training. If you are doing general nursing it is very important to get one which is suitable for you.
 
My audi is ordering a stethoscope for me...she knows I won't just be able to used an amplified one so she's getting me a special one that has visuals as well:)

And ya we do have those books you're talking about for the end testing you take..I will purchase them when I have the $ after I get my reg books needed for my courses:)
 
Alicia, when you get your stethoscope could you please let me know how you find it and what make/model it is? I'd like to get one that actually works for me. Your audi is quite right, an amplified stethoscope is useless for anything other than a mild hearing loss.
 
AliciaM- Good Luck!! That is one field I had always wanted to get into. I was a CNA, but ran into issues. Not able to do it anymore.
