Not feeling well at the moment

HELLO, HA, again how are you now? Wish I could help HA but I don't know from Arizona, except that Sedona is supposed to be scenic.

well, with the dogs I DO wish we had plain flooring throughout the house and not carpet!

Shel, how are you and husband today?

Jacob yes, you are right about the soup - I understand that research has actually found compounds in the soup that make it helpful <but not a "miracle cure" for> for respiratory infections. So my mom's good ol' Jewish soup w/matzoh balls or kreplach actually does have an effect:)

I am feeling worse than yesterday..it is all in my chest.

My hubby is still miserable. Called in sick again. Because of this flu, he will have missed at least 5 days of work so far...

Thanks for asking!

Tucson is on the mountains and it is windy. I am pleased to see that many of the houses have cacti in the yard so no need for poisonious chemical uses on grass to get rid of weeds. The only patch of grass I saw was at the Mall.

HearAgain - I don't know how you can avoid cacti if you do walk past one. Prickly pear types are painful but Cholla types are the worst. Cholla spines stay in you when you pulled away from the cholla cactus and you got to pull spines out one by one. There is a type called Teddy Bear Cholla and there is nothing about it that is so cuddly!

I have had those stuck on my feet and legs several times as a kid. Heck, I know one former kid at my school had one get in his eye and as a result, they had to remove his eye. It is NOT cuddly..the spines are sooo thick and soo sharp and very hard to pull out.Very painful. Ihad to visit the ER like a few times just to get them pulled out.

well - my friend's parents moved to Florida from NJ due to asthma condition. the cold winter is harsh on people with asthma condition. Suffice to say - a warm weather all year around is suitable environment for asthmatic people.

a possible explanation for Arizona on why some asthmatic people move there - Arizona is relatively a flat land. Smog is commonly created in the area with no wind. That's why Mexico City is heavily smoggy. It's basically a city surrounded by mountains on all sides with nearly zero wind. But yes - Arizona is hot as hell but like what you said - it's a dry heat. Some asthmatic people can handle that better than others. That's why some lives in California. or Florida. or Texas. Plus - Arizona is a desert state. That means a much less pollen attacks unlike the Garden State (NJ)

For me - I hate heat. I'm the fall season type. I can handle cold winter better than hot humid summer. My ideal temp is between 60-70. Not too cold, not too warm. just cooooooool. :cool2:

It all depends on what triggers the asthma.

To some the dry air can trigger it. The humidity is like having a vaporizer. Hot steamy air. Actually helps some to breath better. I know, I do in the summer time.

The Cold dry air actually irratates my sinuses by causing it to dry out and become stuffy! Especially if I have to use the heat in my home.. which dries out the air even more.

One of the reasons why I use a saline sinus rinse in the Winter months. To help flush out the "Gunk" :)D Noticed I did not use the word "gook")

Anyhoo. For some, the humidity makes a person feel like they are drowning. It all depends on the individual pulmonary issues. Allergies, asthma, COPD, emphysema, etc.....

My asthma is triggered by heat, cold and environmental allergies so I guess I lose no matter where I live.

The pollution was always worse during the winter than the summers.

I have Seasonal Affective Disorder in which I feel severely depressed from October-March, so moving to Arizona would be a good idea for me. I don't know if it will help my asthma and allergies, but it will definitely improve my mood.

Phx, I dont know about Tucson, has a program in which the Dept of Health alerts the public of high pollen/smog days..just like here in MD with the different colored codes.

Phx has "No burn" days during the winter where burning fire in fireplaces are forbidden.

over 300 days of sun and temps are almost always over 50 degrees during the day year-round. Every now and then, they will dip to the 30s during the day but VERY rare.

HOnestly, it has been 10 years since I lived there and since both cities grew so much and there is more pollution so I cant say how it would affect your asthsma. In the olden days, AZ was good for people with asthma but by the time I moved away (in 1999) there were more reports of people developing late asthma and allergy problems due to the pollution.

That was 10 years ago..has it gotten worse or better?I dont know..will have to ask my mom. Lemme page her now.

I'd be interested in your mother's comments. :ty: I'm going to move to Tucson regardless because even if it doesn't help my asthma or allergies, it will help my mood and I won't have to deal with the snow or extreme cold.

That's exactly the kind of weather I like. Even if temps dipped into the 30s every now and then, that's nothing compared to the weather we have here in Wisconsin.

I'll have to contact one of my friends in Tucson to see if they have an alert for pollen and smog. We do here in Wisconsin. We also have heat advisories.

Just dont live on top of the Santa Catalinas mountains cuz snow covers them each winter. Very cold up there and it is right smack in the middle of Tucson.

The Santa Catalina Mountains are located north of Tucson, Arizona, United States. Commonly referred to as the Catalinas, the mountain range is the most prominent in the Tucson area, with the highest average elevation. The highest point in the Catalinas is Mount Lemmon at an elevation of 9,157 feet above sea level and receives 180 inches of snow annually

180 inches of snow is a lot more than what we get in MD annually!

Shel,

I don't know how familiar you are with Tucson, but I will be living on the east side of the city.

Tucson is VERY small so the east side will probably be close to the mountains. I heard that the East side is near the Caverns.

Do you know where Old Spanish Trail Drive is? That's the area I'm considering.

No..I dont know the street names! LOL!

Okay. I didn't know if you were familiar with specific street names or not.

I won't say exactly where I'm living, but let's just say that's the general area.

The mountain range is near the area Tucsonians call Foothills.

My cough still has not improved but yesterday I realised why. I had been taken too little of medicine. I should have been having 10ml 4 times a day, i was taking 5ml 4x a day. My mum went to the chemist and got recommended stronger and better medication for me! Hopefully it'll start to improve.
