Never Follow A Security Guard Into The Back Of The Store

Eve, it's a harsh way to learn a lesson. At least she will not have a record.
Yes, but sometimes natural consequences are better than the ones a parent can instill in their child. I am sure she learned more from this experience than if we had just grounded her (which also happened). And yes, her record is still clean. Our justice system may not be perfect, but it is the best one available.

Jiro, right, I agree with the juvenile courts, but NOT Dillard's. They only called the cops because we refused to pay their extortion demands. If we had just paid them off, my step-daughter would never have learned her lesson and they would have been rewarded for their extortion.

True, Eve, but it can be hard to let those natural consequences happen with something like this. You did a good job of handling it. I'm not so sure that I would handle it so well.

sallylou, if you can handle being a Den mother, you can handle anything :)

same here. They threaten me with a theft charge and I would threaten back with extortion lawsuit. I'm sure the result would not be pretty.

I also find it funny that the lawyers making the threats are generally in another state, other than the one where the alleged offense took place.

I love being a den mother. We've got some great kids. :D

Sorry for leading us off-topic, but yeah I love my cub scout!

Now if someone were threatening/extorting him, I might take exception lol

First time I hear of this. There will be a class action lawsuit against the stores and extortion will be a thing of the past. Those stores will lose alot of customers. They should be going after the professionals who shoplift $1000s of items instead of some old lady who accidentally drops a $5 item inside a $50 item.
