judging from video and the size of smoke dispersion from its propellant... it certainly looks like a type of rocket or a very large missile.

What, the plane close to the trajectory? Seems like the dangerous way to observe. It seems they could observe from the ground, from satellites, and with instrumentation, with less risk. :dunno:
 
I think it was probably a rocket, but I could be wrong.

That wasn't really an accident, if you recall. The initial false scramble was but then the carrying out of the attack wasn't. Of course, the Doomsday machine notched everything up another level.

That's not all smoke but a contrail.

The difference between a missile and a rocket is not size but guidance method.

Jakarta, Indonesia (CNN) -- U.S. President Barack Obama is officially shortening his visit to Indonesia because of fears that volcanic ash spewing from Mount Merapi could have grounded Air Force One, according to administration officials.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs earlier told reporters aboard Air Force One that officials were closely monitoring the ash cloud and that forecasts show air traffic might again be disrupted. Experts say volcanic ash can wreak havoc on jet engines.

yes but the video briefly showed this "UFO" flying upward at diagonal angle - something that both missile and rocket displayed similarly.

you can see the difference in decaying contrails. In this news video - the decaying contrail is very thick and slow from far distance. Definitely rocket or a very large missile. But then.... I wouldn't be surprised if it was unauthorized launch by private rocket builder since it's coming off from California.... a home to billionaires' private space companies.

I've only seen pictures, but can't get any reference visuals.

Wouldn't be surprised if this "news" dies down (i.e. no big scandal, or confidentality)
